I had seen a few posts about a buckeye breed? Could anyone fill me in on this breed? I'm fairly new to raising chickens. I currently have barred rocks and isa browns. Thanks for any info.
I built the perch off a design on the Internet. It is 36" off the ground. I have one perch rail, then about 1' between it and the next one. They run they length of the building. Aprox 6'. I've tried putting them up there a few times, and have seen two fly up there. Wonder if they are to high...
Not long ago I built a new coop. When I switched my hens into it, they loved the bigger space. But the problem I've ran into is only 1 hen out of 5 will stay on the perch, one likes to go sleep in the nesting box, and the rest sleep on the floor. A) Is the one hen possibly being over dominant...
Everyone I'm sorry I took a while to reply. I had to have surgery and didn't see until now. Sorry
As for the plans I searched high and low. I came across this design on a site (www.buildeazy.com). Once on the site I just typed in 6x6 coop into the search box. It's the first drawing that comes...
They have been laying for about 1.5 months. They are consistent layers. Just weird that the one has a larger than normal egg every week or two. I haven't noticed any hens walking funny. hoping that they'll end up staying normal. Lol
I have 3 ISA Browns. Seems like once every week or so I find a huge egg. Size comparison....When I shut the lid on one of the 1/2 dozen egg cartons, it will hardly close. And these eggs have two yolks. Is this common? I don't mind cause they are great tasting. But just curious if something is...
I currently have 3 ISA Brown's, and 2 Barred Rocks. My ISA's are laying fine and my barred just started laying, small but laying. Two questions...First- since building a new coop it seems the hens are laying in the coop floor or in yard. How do I fix this? Or will they figure it out on their...
Here's my dilemma.....I just recently built my hens a new 6X6 coop. More room for them since the first one I had was too small. My problem that I've ran into is they are wanting to roost in the nesting boxes. The roosting pole I have set up for them is taller than the nesting boxes(which is what...
It's 6X6, with 6' walls. I saw a few plans online and modified them. Wanted a door big enough for me to be able to go in and clean out the coop. Also put it on runners so I could move it if need be. Thanks. Really like it
Our ISA browns have started laying eggs. 2 questions: 1)I have heard that you should/shouldn't wash the eggs until eating. Opinions? 2)do you refrigerate right away and how long are they good for? Thanks for your answers. My girls and I love our hens!
That is just what I had heard. This first egg had a crack in the bottom. We placed padding under the cedar chips to help prevent that. I guess the eggs are ok unless they are discolored for the first few? Thanks for your tips
They are all 17 weeks old. Not only did I enjoy it, my daughters thought it was super cool. Makes the past few months all worth it.
My only question is I've heard you discard the first few eggs. How many do you not keep? Just want to make sure they are all good eggs. Thanks
