    Consolidated Kansas

Heya! Beautiful day in north western Kansas! I just relocated here and was hoping to get some ideas of what breeds are preferred in these areas. I'm from a cold climate so we always had super winter hardy girls. Looking for some that are mellow as we have lots of kids running around. Would love...

Love my 2 buffs, they are by far the friendliest of my 5 chickens, very well behaved, rarely escape the run and always let me pick them up and let my 1.5 year old pet them!

There are no regulations in the Sheridan area regarding keeping chickens aside from no roosters as they can be a noise disturbance.

Posted your list on our local gardening facebook page for all of our chicken-keepers. Thanks for great advise! Haven't tried much beyond mealworms and a couple chopped veggies and fruit which they don't seem to care for, though I wasn't watching them intently after giving it to them. Looking...

    Herbs for chickens

How did they like them? Mine are about a month or so old and I haven't experimented with giving them things aside from mealworms, grit and chick feed. Very curious!

Comment by 'JazzyChicks' in article 'How To Fix A Muddy Run Chicken Coop'

Awesome! very helpful! we just got our run built last week and our overflow from the well is pumping water downhill to the run (our coop is elevated about 10-12"; we intend to re-run the well water soon, but it has shown me where the water is pooling). It has become a bothersome mess and the...

Hey guys! for those in the Sheridan area, I am considering giving away my White Leghorn. She is about a month old but we only have one and she is a bit too flighty for me and our little coop set-up. If anyone is interested please pm me. Thanks! Update: We found her a great home here in...

    Aggressive White LegHorns

So I purchased 6 chicks recently. They are all about 2-3 weeks old and have begun feathering out. I only have one White Leghorn and she is becoming rather aggressive. Tonight I fed them meal worms from my hand (as I have most nights this week) and she was pickin em up, hiding them in a corner...

I've had to drive in some pretty serious weather over the years. It's apart of living in Wyoming! But I have always made it safe, even before I had a pick-up and drove my little prius for a couple years :)

    Scared chickys! Help!

Oh gosh I got so worried I was overheating them. Thank you for the info. I had read that their first week should be about 95 degrees and subtract 5 degrees each week after that (usually by raising the lamp a couple inches) until the temprature in their cage/kennel is the same as outside. I've...

    Scared chickys! Help!

Ok awesome! I make (and have since the day I got them home) little clicky sounds with my tongue. It seems to calm them down a bit and lets them know I'm there. The dogs think I'm calling for them too. I think I'm going to try giving them some treats (mealworms, strawberries and maybe a slice or...

    Scared chickys! Help!

They have been warming up to me. I try hard to move slowly. I have two each of the buff orpingtons and red sexlinks and they seem to be pretty sociable and, for the most part, let me pick them up. I also have one easter egger and the one white leghorn. The leghorn is super flighty already and...
