I have a Silver Laced Wyandotte hen who is 21 weeks old. She laid 4 small eggs day after day then skipped a day, then laid a double yolk larger egg. She then skipped a day and went on to lay 3 more small eggs. The last egg she laid was 9/5/23 - so it has been 6 days.
I think something stress...
Plan is to have them integrated by that time and the rooster removed and brought to the farm i am already in contact with to take them. they gave me the green light to drop him off, and i waited because he was only 7 weeks old. Now that he is 13-14 weeks old I think it is time. this way no...
Understood and appreciate your perspective. We are looking into rehoming home and we werent sure if we wanted to keep him long term for this very reason. but you think removing the rooster will help the little ones become more blended with less chaos?
so it sounds like moving them to a more neutral location, like the pen i have for the yard and let them all in there might be better? this will allow them to be just chickens and not force them into the current run and coop where the bigs clearly run the show. - should i also make time for the...
Hello – I have an integration question. This is our first time doing this, so suggestions or ideas are welcome.
Please read and understand before commenting something that makes no sense. TYIA.
We have 4 chickens that are 13 weeks old – 1 Roo and 3 hens. We also have 3 hens that are 8 weeks...
How do you know when is the right time to allow for full flock integration? Not the timeline or methods, but instead the time to remove the barriers? Let me tell you what we did/are doing and maybe someone can let us know if we can become one flock.
We have 3 hens and 1 rooster - 11 weeks old...
He is 6 weeks. He is not attacking anyone. He’s great. But we have a small window to caponize while young. Waiting around to see if he becomes a jerk is not ideal. And 100% certain he is a rooster.
Sorry for confusion I would not be doing the surgery. I would go to a professional veterinarian.
I’m not worried about crowing so much as I am aggressive behavior towards my hens and my humans.
Just trying to find a way to keep him
We got a rooster in our newly hatched RIR chicks about 6 weeks back. We are looking to rehome him but understand that is hard.
I have been thinking about having him neutered or caponized. He shows no aggression now and is a cool dude but he hasn’t gone through puberty yet.
Pros?
Cons?

Thanks folks. Looks like we’re getting 4 more chickens and finding Rocki a new home and will roll with our 7. Any ideas of places or ways to find this fella a great spot. He’s a really social cool dude so far with us.
