Keeping the Girls Cool in 90s & 100s temperature...?

A used power vent was given to me by a friend when he had his house re-roofed. I kept it for several years until I figured out a good way to install it on my chicken house. This year being as hot as it is, I decided to install it. It has an adjustable thermostat and a plug-in cord already on it...

    Ventilation?

Welcome to byc. I I have a 6' x 12' metal building for my coop. Because it's metal and would emit heat from the Sun in the summer, I insulated mine with 2' wide bubble wrap (large bubble) between the wall joists and rafters. On the man door end of the coop, I installed two vents that can be...

Anything that will rot and turn back into dirt is good compost.

I did a similar thing with the grass patch except I framed a 3 foot by 4 foot area using 2x4s on their edge. I then covered it with chicken wire, and threw a couple of handfuls of wild bird seed evenly under the chicken wire. As the seeds sprouted and started growing up through the wire, the...

    Fox problem

I use the electric fence both at the top and bottom. When a fox comes within 300 yards of my ladies, I put out snares. Foxes are creatures of habit and will use the same game trails as the previous foxs before it. I set my snares and after a few days to a week, I've got my fox. If you don't get...

    Taming a Rooster?

I don't tolerate roosters in my flock. They are a waste of time trying to keep them in line, and I dont get anything in return for the food they consume. All roosters that I get go to freezer camp when they come of age. I have 16 sweet, gorgeous, spoiled, beauty queens that look to me for...

    How to Keep Hawks Away?

That's what I did. I built a scare Crow that turns with the wind, and I hung aa CD' from each of it's arms. I also hung a round pie tin from a near by limb with a washer, so that when the wind blows, it spins the pie tin causing the washer to bang against it making a noise. So far, 1year, no...

welded wire instead of hardware cloth?

I've got the 2x4 welded wire and just to put icing on the cake, I added an electric fence at the bottom all the way around about a foot off the ground, and at the top. I grounded the 2x4 wire with a ground rod so that any predator that got past the the bottom electric wire, would come in contact...

    Best dewormer for general use?

That's fine. I just use that as an indication that my birds need to be wormed, and so far, it's been pretty successfull for me.

    Best dewormer for general use?

Kind of makes you wonder what chickens used to deworm themselves in nature before they became domesticated thousands of years ago in China and India

    Best dewormer for general use?

From what I understand, to use oregano, thyme, ACV, is a dewormer. I've used these in clearing up signs in my birds of having worms (squirts, poop on the eggs) successfully.

    Best dewormer for general use?

Really, the only point of interest that I can reference is the Perdue Chicken Co uses Oregano as part of their organic antibiotic regimen.
