Really?! I keep thinking a female but needed reassurance, lol. Upon searching others photos, it's comb is small in comparison and it's wattles are rather small.
Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part??
She did stay in the nest all night.
So, you think I can just leave her there, in a week or two add the chicks under her? Is there no need to separate her and the chicks from the rest of the flock?
It'll likeky be 1-2 weeks before I can get the chicks anyway, so it'll be perfect timing.
So, I'm pretty sure my 1 year old Salmon Flaverolle is broody. She started spending more time in the nesting box over the past week then today she's been in the nest all day. When I open the coop door she hunkers down and starts squawking at me. Broody, right?
My question is, when should I plan...
My Salmon Flaverolle just went completely broody today but the week leading up to today she was acting like what you described... Making frequent trips to the nesting box, sitting there for extended periods of time, etc. Today she hasn't moved from the box and gets upset if I enter the coop...
So, several days have gone by. I've yet to hear the chicken crow. It's feathers are starting to come in more full. The hackle feathers are definitely pointy.
My new question is, do only roosters have shiny, iridescent type feathers or can hens have them also? S/he has some reddish-copper...
