Mine just started eating softer eggs recently, but now I believe they are eating more and more, and there's a total mucky mess after they eat.
I don't raise chickens to be my pet, so I never name them. They are all 'chicken' to me. But, having friendly and cooperative birds is essential. You will need to pick them up occasionally, and if they think you are going to kill them, they will not cooperate, and they will fight to get away...
Why would you shame your feelings? Let them guide you and you can't go wrong. Killing things you care for probably isn't right, it isn't for me.
