    Advice: Get a Rooster!

    my young rooster was getting a little mean so I decided to bribe him. At least once a day I take a cup of sunflower seeds out to the run and toss them on the ground a little at a time. He now runs to me to get his seeds.

    I am completing their new coop today and moving them from their brooder pen to the coop, so if a new bowl scared them this much they will probably have a heart attack when I move them to their new coop. LOL

    I think my chickens are drama queens. I put a new stainless bowl in their coop today and they acted like I put a fox in there. They stayed at the far end for over an hour until I tilted the bowl up and showed them the food inside. And the young rooster hid behind the hens.

    Thanks for the replies. I was thinking about 5, so that will work out. This site is great. I learned so much before my chicks arrived this spring.

    When its hot they drink a lot of water. Might want to put in 4 just to be sure.

    I put mine on the nipples as soon as they arrived. They seemed to enjoy pecking at the nipples so I took away the jar waterer when they were 2 weeks old.

    How high above the ground should I put my water nipples. I would like my chickens to be able to pass under it and reach up for a drink when they want it.
