Luckily the nesting box location I have designed is lower than the roosts. I'm trying to finish my tung oiled top that will create a slick surface so they won't be able sit on top and poop on it. It till needs several more coats. I plan on relocating some of the roosting boards once I get...
Hello,
I've posted on here several times prior to a formal introduction since I had some serious sickness issues. On August 26 we started out with 24 baby chicks (21 bantams and 3 naked necks) and we're down to 18 (have lost only the bantams).
We bought the place (that we are...
I appreciate everyone's input.
I will be certain to add a new post in a different forum with our current setup. It truly is an inherited mess, but we are making minor improvements (it really just needs to be torn down and completely rebuilt). Tonight, all of the birds finally decided that the...
Not really close. But, I have a meeting in the morning that I can not be late to.
I think I'm going to use this as a HUGE learning experience and treat the next sick chick as a more serious situation. I know it's not ideal, but I really don't have choice right now.
So even at 65-degrees (it's been about 4.5 hours since the culling) do you think it'll be okay to refrigerate?
I'll post some photos on another post of the setup. We have made some improvements to this coop, but I know more is needed.
Sorry if I sound like a putz. That is not my intent. I wanted to start off with maybe 6 chickens and work up to a larger flock later (after more work to our inherited chicken coop and run that was an absolute joke of construction). And one night, my wife was insistent (after a martini) that...
Yes.....in Texas.
Well crap.........after culling, she went into the deep part of the forest next to our property.
It's still relatively cool........65.......not sure if it's worth locating and placing in the freezer.
This is our first rodeo at chickens, so I'm just trying to coast with what...
I culled her about an hour after posting the video.
This chicken stuff is a heck of a lot crazier than I had ever imagined. Besides the apparent broken toe, I have no clue what was going on with this chicken. There is nothing online that I could find that show similar symptoms or anything...
Well there's definitely a broke toe, but something else is going on with her. Her mouth is open and she appears to have labored breathing, she keeps moving her legs back and forth and also shivering (not entire body, just legs), and the toes on the other leg don't look right. She does not...
Well the splint is in place. I only had electrical tape......not ideal, but that's all i had. She managed well throughout the procedure. For now, the jacked up toe is taped adjacent to the normal toe. I hope this works.
Thanks for the info.
I can't stop thinking of the title of my post (and what I was trying to diagnose) and now my chicken has a broken toe. Swiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnggggg and a HUGE miss!!
Wow.....talk about wrong from the start.
This toe is not only broken, but it is twisted upside down. So...
Glad to hear this might be a common thing and nothing major that would require the frying pan.
I think I have 5-6 cockerels in all (some of what I thought were hens are now showing signs of cockerel)...... But there's one in particular that is really trying to rule the roost. He picks on all...
Well, i've located one issue this morning. She keeps on her right side while laying down. I had her out trying to give her more Corid when I noticed her foot. One of her toes looks either dislocated or broken. It's completely twisted back towards her heel. Not sure if the photo gives a good...
I'll try to get some photos. This one isn't being very cooperative while trying to fish through her feathers, but I'll get one tomorrow. I'm certain I'm incorrect in what I believe to be the crop location. Big time rookie here.
But she did take a dose of Corid quite easily. I tried holding...
In the US........Texas.
Still feeding starter medicated feed.......crap, forgot to post all of this important stuff.
Do you think this "stumbling" effect is molting or coccidiostatis?
I have some Corid from the previous situation, so should I give her a dose?
