I feel like giving up!
I love my girls. I have 3 Pekin bantams but I’m wondering if chicken keeping is for me. I feel like I lurch from one worry to the next and it’s not the laid back happy hobby I thought it would be.
Since I’ve had them in just over a year I’ve had coccidiosis, broodiness...
i saw a single flea in a nest box last night when I put the girls to bed. Thought it was a little crawly or a fly but it definitely jumped like a flea. I recently changed their bedding (hemp) and sprayed with poultry shield then dusted with DE before adding clean bedding. I have 3 Pekin bantams...
My Pekin bantams normally look like round fluffy footballs. They currently look like soggy rats. They are literally quarter of their normal size! They’re hiding in the run but I hadn’t realised how leaky it was. They’re so miserable. I wish I could bring them in the house to warm up!
I have 3 Pekin bantams (cochins) a year old. Two of them have been broody twice this spring already and once last autumn. I can break the broodiness using a broody jail that I have left set up ready but I’m sick of it. I feel sorry for them being locked up as they’re normally freerange all day...

Just read your post, what a stress for you but sounding like some good news? Did any more chicks hatch? Did Doris look after your first chick?
Good luck!
Lol @PouleChick your life sounds fascinating! Keep us posted with the egg updates!
My silver partridge Pekin Bantam has gone ridiculously broody, no cockerel and I don’t want to hatch eggs so I’m trying to break her but she’s so stubborn. Been a week of cold baths and a dog crate on bricks but...
Thank you!
So strange just watching 3 of them pottering around the garden.
I guess this is all part of learning and building experience.
How are you all?
Share some happy chick stories with me :love
Aw that’s sooooo sad!!!!!! Poor you! :(
I couldn’t feel the egg even after she died. I feel bad I didn’t try to get it out but she was so distressed and toppling over. I couldn’t bare to watch her suffering. I’m not sure I’m strong enough for chicken keeping!!
