UPDATE: Day 5 after the drake attack. Healing well. Daily baths (or the house smells like a barn yard). It is a fiesty little duck with a 'tude for sure. Hissed at my daughter in law who was watching her in the bathtub while i cleaned her quarters.
Than you all for your help and comments.
I know. I feel so bad knowing i am 100% at fault. I just didnt think beesby could be so savage. But shes bandaged, in the play pen resting. I imagine i will be keeping her inside for about a week (or more) until she's healed.
She is a little more than a month old. While healing, she will live in the house inside an old play pen. Once she is healed, i will keep her and mama in the old duck yard, mean aunys and drake in the new one. Not sure what i will do at night
Im ready to toss the two nasty aunts and daddy duck into the frigging stew pot.
I gave away my ducklings, keeping the all white one. All was going well until yesterday when i noticed the drake chasing the bany (little over one month old).
This what i found this morning:
We have no vets...
I have read, but never thought that MY ducks could be such nasty little biddies until they went broody.
I currently am the only person in the house that will eat duck eggs, so wasnt paying much attention. All three laid nests and because of personal issues I just let them sit. How many chicks...
Our local ranch supply sells Nutrena brand feeds. I buy the specific duck feed or when out, the all flock feed.
For snacks its a package of peas or peas and carrots and soldier worms. I need to up the game for winter. They are working hard at foraging, but not sure what they are finding...
I just found this under the ramp to the deck. Ducktard Mallard has her stash here. I hate it when i have to destroy all those eggs. Subdivision (even though we are "rural" on 2 acre mobile home lots, 5 ducks is the max. Fall has not slowed the little bitty down at all.
A few weeks back i found the nest my mallard was tending under meath the deck. She had like 15 eggs in it. I destroyed as I do NOT want more than my 5 ducks. She quit laying. I was consistently getting 2 eggs a day from my other two ducks. Yesterday i made sure i moved all the shavings to...
Dried meal worms is my little darlings absolute favorite. Now that mother natures wheel has turned, foraging has little or no nutrition. Love this thread as it gave me some ideas beyond peas and meal worms.
I hope to hear more. I do plan on moving 2 states east at some point in my little darlings life span. Told my kids must be a duck friendly/allowable property. I would like to hear on HOW you moved the ducks on a 12 hour trip.
Well I did it. Don't think she has noticed as i did when she came out to eat and bath. She was upset that i shut down the summer pool. Imagine I will hear her yelling soon. She reminds me of Ed Sullivan (dating myself) as she scrunches down her neck and squacks.
