Here is my 20ish week old hen/Roo. I'm rehoming her due to space restrictions and I was looking at her today and her legs are very thick compared to my older barred rock. They are a lot more yellow in color also. I don't want to give a person a hen...when it is really a Roo. Thank you!
Your coop looks great! So far I have only built the legs on mine and started the roof framing. Other than my brooder this is the first thing I've ever really built. I'm building by myself with a two year old helper, so it's going to take forever. Thank you for sharing your pictures.
It looks like you have gotten off to a great start. I have been stalking this site for modified purina coop designs. I started mine last weekend. I plan to do a 4X8 design. Good luck!
I would go with the Purina coop. It seems like the easiest design, and the easiest to modify to fit you needs. I can barely screw in a light bulb but I'm pretty sure that I can build or attempt to build this coop...
Someone else is laying! Another "First" egg. It came out soft shelled though. I have 2 leghorns, 1 BC Maran, and a Barred Rock. I'm assuming this came from one of the brown layers.
One of my other hens are laying! I'm not sure who it was though....all i know is it was a probably one of my brown egg layers (Maran or Barred Rock). And it sucks because the egg came out soft.
I got my first egg ever from one of my white leghorns yesterday!!! I did a dance and everything about it lol. Today she gave me another egg...but it was cracked ...The first egg was layed underthe coop...and that was a hassle for me to get that! The second egg was laid on the coop floor....and...
Hello everyone!
Currently I have a small flock of 4 pullets. They just turned 21 weeks today. 2/25 I will receive 4 more day olds. I get that I will have to have them seperated until they are big enough to defend themselves against my older birds. But should I just keep them seperated and...
Hi everyone! I'm Jen, a chicken newbie from Central IL. I have four 20 week hens (2 leghorns, 1 Maran (I am assuming a BCM she was from the maran collection) and a Barred Plymouth Rock). At the moment they are in their grow out coop and I hope to have my handy man start building a bigger coop...
Right now their brooder is in my garage. It has a window that won't close and door that doesn't close all the way. It's pretty much a good wind away from falling to the ground lol. This week it has been about 32-37 degrees in the day time and about 15-29 at night. I was thinking of cutting...
