How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I'm getting 7-9 a day now! A couple new girls have started laying!! Today I got 7. I am a happy chicken momma. I still only have 9/17 of my adult girls laying. Can't wait until the other 8 start!

    Really, REALLY early egg laying?

Any chance you have a significant other messing with you? Lol. I can't imagine a 7 week old chicken laying an egg! Even once they reach laying age they would be laying smaller than normal eggs. This is.. not possible.

    Silkie scissors beak broke.

From what I understand, those with scissor beak simply learn to scoop food instead of peck. I'd keep an eye on her but she should be fine. When I worry that any of mine aren't eating I check their crop at the end of the day to make sure there is food in it.

    Hens or roos? (With pics)

All hen. The only questionable one is RIR 1 because of the blurriness. But pretty sure she's a hen too.

Went to the next step in chicken feed and my chickens won't touch it?

I didn't mix mine. Maybe I should have but I was new when I switched. It took my chickens a day to decide to try the new food. I would leave the new food available to them and maybe cut down the treats for a day. They will get hungry and eat.

Please help fast! She is dying!

I am so sorry. :( I don't know how she got her head under a rock, but it sounds like she possibly injured herself trying to escape. So, so sorry. :(

    Faverolles Thread

One hatched yesterday afternoon and one was out when I got up to check temp/humidity at 4am! No other pips yet but today is just now day 21. These two were flopping and running around the incubator so I moved them to the brooder. They're totally dry but their feathers are stuck to them, that's...

New to the country life, and new to chicken owning!

Welcome! Honestly, it all depends on location and your situation. A rat will chew through wood siding. There's a host of critters that can tunnel in, and raccoons, opossums and foxes can certainly find their way through ill-secured hardware cloth. I am new to the country as well (just over a...
