Ollievee, I've been thinking about doing this too. I've seen quite rough 'playground' flooring. Was thinking of putting this down as a base and then putting straw down in some areas over the top. My babies came to be with bumblefoot and my vet thinks this flooring might help relieve some...
Thank you both of you. I really appriciate everything you have said. I love having a drake. Meep Meep my origional drake does a really good job of keeping the flock in check and protecting his girls even if he does have his bully moments :P
I'm just worried about my hens being over sexed and...
Thank you. I appreciate the advice. I'm really annoyed I was lied too about the sex too. All three ducks also have bubble foot :( We're treating it and it's getting better, but I'm disappointed.
Thanks EmAbTo48. The problem I have is that the new male ducks where only introduced to the flock three weeks ago, at the time I was told they where certainly females. My existing Drake is top duck and the other younger drakes run from him if he pulls rank. One of the new drakes is no problem at...
Thanks Miss Lydia. Luckily if I have to go down that option I have a great bird vet who did his PHD in castrating quails, and castrates quite a few birds. My husband is talking to him today too see if we have any other options
That really does help thanks Mum. He's a very handsome chap.
Sadly I don't really have the room for more girls, even though I would love them. Also even with the three girls I have now, they all take an interest in the same duck and poor Quackers is getting fed up.
My husband is an exotic vet...
Well I've been sitting with the Ducks this morning and I'm now quite sure my two 'girls' are boys. They appear to have grown impressive drake feathers overnight Getting rid of them is not an option as I love them. Looks like we will be getting them castrated.
Here are some pictures of their tails. Speedy is the brown and white and Jumbo is the grey and white.
By the way, I don't keep them on concrete, the picture was taken when I removed all the bedding to disinfect the floor before adding more bedding :-)
Here's a close up of Speedy's tail...
Hi,
I have a Mallard Drake and two female Campbells. Almost three weeks ago, we purchased three female Runner's to expand the flock and have a better male to female ratio.
The only thing is I'm not 100% sure all my new girls are girls.
Magpie, my black and white Runner lays almost everyday...
