    Younger chicks aren't joining flock

The bunnies and chickens get along fine. The chicks were a little scared at first but now they all just ignore each other. Every once in a while a bunny runs over a chick if it isn't paying attention but there haven't been any fighting. Thanks for the long reply azygous. One of the new chicks...

When can I give chicks dandelions and such?

I used a post hole digger and took a clump of dirt and grass and put it in the brooder starting at a few weeks. They loved it. Picked it dry by the next day everytime.

    Younger chicks aren't joining flock

Thanks for the reply. No blood just a lot of pecking. As I read that long thread about this, i see others had the same issue. It's good to know that they may take a long time to roost together. Our coop has two roosts that are about 8 feet long each. There's plenty of room in there. I am a...

    Younger chicks aren't joining flock

Hey all! I am hoping you have some advice. We have two flocks that need to become one. :) We have a group of 6 chicks that are about 14 weeks old. We added 3 more chicks 3 weeks after the first set. We kept all of them in dog crate brooders next to each other until the older ones went outside...

Could use some help ID'ing 3 of our chicks.

Oh my gosh! Thanks so much! That sure looks like it. I'll read more about their characteristics but the pictures looks very similar. Thanks again!

Still trying to figure out what these are. One of them is starting to show signs of being a Roo so we'd really like to ID them. Here is the latest picture. Anyone know?

have any chick photo to share?

Oh yeah we have plenty of pictures. :D Here is our silkie and our roo. Both are 8 weeks. The rooster is a d'Uccle Bantam and the other is well a Silkie. :) One more of the Roo. Not sure what this is. We have two of them and they are the least friendly ones we have. About 11...

When to join different aged chicks

I appreciate the advice here. We are trying to integrate three new chicks (one is a rooster) with the slightly older flock of seven. The older ones are 11 weeks and the younger ones are 8 weeks. The older one are larger and are a tight group that spends a lot of time together. They spent...

Could use some help ID'ing 3 of our chicks.

Wow how they've grown. Like I said above we identified one of the mystery chickens as a Brabanter. She is growing nicely and looks great: We still haven't ID'd the pair. Here is how they look now at about 8 weeks: Anyone know what this is?

Pasty butt in only one chick??

I have that same issue on one of my Silkies. We got these three about 2 weeks ago and this one has to be cleaned every day or so. Luckily no blockage yet so I don't think it is a major issue as long as we clean it. We have a 5 week old group of six chicks and had a few that needed to be...

    Spring 2017 first timers post!

Grabbed a few pics of our Brabanter. Here is our golden Cochin too. She has been changing a lot over the last week. She used to be so light. One of the Speckled Sussex:

    Adding some sod to brooder?

I started using a post hole digger and putting about a 4" circle of grass and dirt in with ours at about 4 weeks. They surround it and go nuts. :)

    Spring 2017 first timers post!

We are first timers this year. Our first seven chicks are growing fast and are spending the day outside today for the first time. They are about 6 weeks old. Not positive since they were definitely not day olds when we got them. Our other three are almost 2 weeks now. They are 3 Silkies...

Could use some help ID'ing 3 of our chicks.

Went to a chicken show for a local club yesterday and I think we finally figured out this one. She appears to be a brabanter. We saw a hen there that looked similar and then we did some searching for brabanter chicks and she looks like a lot of them.
