    "Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Well I've got a flock again...tiny but starting to lay. Am a transplant from Illinois to south of Lafayette. Bought a Copper Maran trio and 3 EE pullets (one she may be a he) just before the big freeze but everybody seems ok. Nice to be here again. Catherine

Thanks....wanted EEs...I've always enjoyed a pretty carton. I found one local source for pullets (Atlas in BB)....are there other local places to check out?

    "Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Hey All - i moved a year ago to SW Louisiana (Lafayette area) from the Midwest. Living 'in town' now but missing having chickens. So, considering chicks....what are the best heat hardy breeds here? All advice welcome. Cat

Well, I did it....brought home a new (to me) mixed flock last night and a pretty Welsummer Roo. The Barred Rocks are going....one of the BR roos had the audacity to fly at me this morning...they are being moved into the old goat stall so the new flock can get settled. Then they are gone - gone...

Thanks ChicagoClucker. I've turned down two possibles. One guy seemed too interested in whether the roos fight....the other responder couldnt make her mind up whether she planned to eat them. Im starting to do chicken math.... Maybe I nust need more hens instead of fewer roosters? ;)

    Illinois...

Hello all - would anyone like a couple of fine looking Barred Rock Roosters? They live in Whiteside county in NW Illinois....I bought pullets in May and it seems that at least 50 percent are roos, maybe more (three are crowing so.....). I might be able to meet half way. I'm hoping they go to...

So sad....poor mama hen. I'm still waiting on the BRs to decide if they're hens or roos....one definitely is a roo. I suspect a few others out of the six. My latest plan is to separate my 5 Red Star Girls (that i know are laying) and see if the BRs come up with some eggs. The one BR roo...

I'm wondering if it's due to the high heat this year? The BRs don't look stressed out but maybe that's why they're late to lay. As for the percentage of roos - I sure hope it's not 50%. Thanks for all the input

Thanks for the input and encouragement..I'll learn to love the BRs, hens or not:)

Well, it's confirmed ....at least ONE of the BRs is a rooster...it's not just the crowing attempts....Today I caught him on one of the Red Star Girls. I am concerned that ALL of the BRs are cockerals. If so I am crating them up and dumping them on the doorstep of the breeder I bought the...

Lots of cute chicks lately! I'm starting to wonder if one of my 20 week old BR pullets is a cockerel - or just a really bossy hen! He/She looks a little different (lighter coloring - nearly white and taller than the others). And the rest of the BR girls haven't started laying (or I don't...

    TRANSPORTING CHICKENS long distance.....HOW TO????

How did it go, Precious? I see your post is three years old but I will be in your circumstances in a few months. Any advice or tips? Anything you would have done differently? It will still be warm when we go but not as hot as July! Hope all is well with you and your animals.

We'll be moving to the LA gulf coast area - at least no more snow! I'd love to take my flock but can't figure out how to get them there safely - any ideas? Cat
