    Cross-beak broke

Sorry if I missed it, but why is she underweight? Because of the beak? Update: Okay, I see cross beaks make it hard to eat.

    Wild Jungle Fowl

Update: I figured out what happened. She was confused, I was confused, and no one is to blame. Jungle Fowl are not meant to brood in a coop with chickens around. They are meant to hunker down, undisturbed, in seclusion. She was in grief yesterday, and I was being unfair. With the correct...

Hard Lesson About Wild Jungle Fowl Mamas

It’s a sad day. My wild jungle fowl rescue went broody. None of my other hens do that, so it was exciting! I had a collection of eggs to incubate. I gave her some fake eggs because this was her first full-on brood, and I wanted to be sure she’d be consistent. In the meantime, I picked the...

    Wild Jungle Fowl

UPDATE: Sadly, she is very protective of eggs to the point she kicked 5 chicks out from under her to “protect” the remaining eggs. I found 3 hatched, then were rejected, along with 2 others she initially took when they hatched from the incubator. They didn’t make it. I didn’t know what happened...

All that free stuff was costly in terms of your time, but wonderful in terms of salvaging valuable materials and keeping them out of the landfill! You enrich and take part in your community. The result is lovely! Much classier than my tarp and chicken wire set-up! The trade off is my chickens...

Hatchling with yolk sac -Very active!

I guess it absorbed or something. Was gone later. At 3 weeks he looked like a hatchling. He/she is growing, but slowly. I think there are some intestinal issues happening that disrupt nutrient absorption. There is a scar below the cloaca here. Good luck to you!

    Deworming my chickens

Isn’t it strange that the product has 4.8 out of 5? Is it because people just feel better about it? Like when they take multivitamins despite having been diagnosed with no deficiencies?

Hatchling with yolk sac -Very active!

This chick is very active. So far, it’s a slow grower! It’s half the size of its younger hatch mates. Has had a patch of dryness on the abdomen. Hen was either a RIR or production red. Rooster is 50/50 RIR and BPR.

Worms? Which type and how to treat?

All yes about the Ivermectin. It’s another one not indicated for poultry, so the withdrawal is not an official guideline. I like peer reviewed research on synthetic drugs. So far, I haven’t heard of a case study where people were treated for Ivermectin toxicity. Seems pretty far-fetched that the...

Worms? Which type and how to treat?

Too bad birds are so sensitive. My friend would deworm her puppies with a pinch of tobacco. Worked like a charm!

Worms? Which type and how to treat?

I just purchased it as a preventative, because I live in the tropics and parasites don’t take breaks. I can never get rid of mites because of wild birds in the vicinity, so I just tamp them down with permethrin, spinosad(active ingredient in Elector), and Ivermectin in a rotation. I have to...

    Deworming my chickens

I asked on another thread, but I bought a natural dewormer (CanineGluca) based on positive product reviews. It’s mainly for parasite prevention, but is it just snake oil?
