Cull him, or wait for protection?
I would cull him and get another rooster. When I wanted a rooster I found someone who had gotten 4/6 roosters from the store on a straight run batch. I got him as a teenager I guess. We picked out the largest one and he has been so friendly with us. He is a buff orpington which is a friendlier...- Jessie_james

Heat Lamp Hatching?
Or you could ask around to see if anyone in your town has an incubator you could use or add your eggs to. That seems like the safest option. Not to mention you’ll get better sleep. If your experiments don’t work, you wind up wasting money in electricity at the very least.- Jessie_james

Unacceptable Guest Dog
It sounds like (from reading the first 3 pages of comments) she doesn’t have good boundaries. Maybe ask her to attend dog training classes. I teach a basic 6wk dog obedience class for $90 (group sessions). I think it helps people find the ability to be the pack leader that they need to be for...- Jessie_james

Should I Separate rooster while on vacation?
Yeah I’m probably leaving in two weeks or less so that won’t work.... but I guess I can ask our one neighbor... our dog can be selective. Or at least, our dog is intimidating 😆 thank you both for the advice!- Jessie_james

Should I Separate rooster while on vacation?
I plan to leave for a few days while I work on my rental home between tenants. I’m not sure how long we will be gone but it could be up to 5 days. I currently collect the eggs everyday except the ones that I previously left to be hatched. I don’t know if I feel comfortable coming back after 5...- Jessie_james

The Rookie - Chicken Owner in Training
My Easter eggers still make weird noises. I thought they were Roos. I was convinced I had a lot of Roos but now that my two oldest started laying, I realized I have all females! I got my eldest chickens in February too. The first two are laying now as of a week or so ago. I bet yours are too!- Jessie_james
