    Too many drakes

Found a home for them with a large flock an hour away that free ranges most of the day. Kept 2 boys and 10 girls. They’re adjusting well. Still giving each other space, but them seem more at ease.

    Too many drakes

I’m not violently opposed to that, I just know I couldn’t butcher them myself. They’re beautiful birds. I’m hoping I can find someone who would like to keep them.

    Too many drakes

They free range for a few hours a day. The rest of the time they are in a 300sq ft enclosure.

    Too many drakes

Yes, it would be 3 to 10. The 3 I’m considering keeping are the ones who get along with each other the best. If I find I need to get rid of more I can, but I’m hoping it will work out ok.

    New duckling introductions

They are doing well together. They still stay separated for the most part, but they’re not being aggressive. Now I have to sort out finding homes for the excess drakes we have.....

    Too many drakes

They’re nice funny birds and I enjoy watching them, but I don’t have the ability to build a separate enclosure for the drakes right now and I don’t want to compromise the ducks since egg production is a goal for next year.

    Too many drakes

I’m looking for advice on how to find homes for the excess drakes we have. Got 8 from the farm supply in April and now that they’re getting their adult plumage I’m pretty sure all of them or at least 7 are drakes as they all have green feathers coming in on their heads. Also, the female ducks I...

    New duckling introductions

I brought them in last night, but I took the babies out this morning when I let the older ducklings out for their morning frolic while I did barn chores. They all seemed to get along fine. They’re still not integrating a lot, but even without me right there they didn’t have any issues. One of...

    New duckling introductions

So I know this has been covered before but I just wanted some clarification. I have 8 ducks that are 12 weeks old. They have been in their outside pen for almost a month. I also have 10 ducks who are almost 5 weeks old that are outgrowing the kiddie pool in the garage. I have spent about about...

    Golden layer coloring

Thanks! I think they’re beautiful. It’s so fun to watch them swim and forage every day. When they’re in the garage they are more skittish, but outside they’re very funny. I just have to get their predator proof housing finished so they can be outside. Their house will be an insulated metal shed...

    Golden layer coloring

Also, forgive the crap around the pool they are stubborn about getting in so we have building material obstacles around the stairs so they will head that way to get in.

    Golden layer coloring

That’s what I was wondering. The Welsh Harlequins look like they should, but I’m unsure of the others.

    Golden layer coloring

It’s harder to see them up close outside, I just hate to only show pictures in the mucky garage. We will all be happy when they can be outside next week. There are two with the blue, the pictures are close up of one but they look alike. The smaller duck was the same size as the others at 1 week...

    Golden layer coloring

I can get some pics later when they go outside. We are still building their pen (hopefully done this weekend) so I take them out to the pasture twice a day to forage and swim.

    Golden layer coloring

I have 4 golden layer ducklings from the feed store that are about 7 weeks old. Two of them look to be getting distinctly blue wing feathers. That’s not normal right?
