Sick chicken - what to do?

I did check her feet - I’m puzzled and this is our first sick girl :( Our feed store told us to give her antibiotics in case of infection, electrolytes if she has a fever and water by syringe so she doesn’t get dehydrated, so that’s what we’ve done today. She doesn’t even eat her mealworms! She...

Sick chicken - what to do?

This is Rusty, our 8 month old Orpington. She’s been lethargic and not eating since yesterday. I’ve checked her for bites and other signs of injury; It doesn’t feel like an impacted crop and no smell like sour crop; I don’t feel an egg from an external exam to see if she is egg bound; She’s not...

Keeping the Girls Cool in 90s & 100s temperature...?

You’ve got a nice setup with plenty of airflow and that’s important. I live in the Arizona desert and it’s going to be 114 today Our run is in a large L shape and we have misters strung across each section and our girls love it! We have a small baby pool and several trays filled with water and...

    Soft shelled egg eaters!

Yeah I don’t mind them eating them either. It was just the way they did it lol. They’re all new layers and they haven’t eaten any hard shelled eggs so thankfully I don’t think we have any egg eaters! Whew! I’ve been giving them oyster and egg shells and they’re eating them so hopefully the soft...

    Soft shelled egg eaters!

Thanks for the link! Yeah I’m giving them a layer feed but I put the oyster and egg shells out yesterday. They ate quite a few and if that’s any indication of a deficiency maybe that’s all it was. Plus they’re all young and new layers. Also they didn’t touch the hard shelled eggs today so I...

    Soft shelled egg eaters!

It looks like they’re only eating the soft shelled eggs so I’m hopeful and just giving them oyster and egg shells. I agree- they can have the soft shelled eggs!

    Soft shelled egg eaters!

Thanks all! Well, based on today it doesn’t look like they’re eating any of the hard shelled eggs and if any of them laid or ate any soft shelled eggs I didn’t see. One laid an egg outside by the waterer too and nobody touched it. We do collect about every hour and we’re in and out of the coop...

    Soft shelled egg eaters!

We have 18 girls all about 20 weeks old. Most of them are laying and all has been great! BUT!!! This evening one of our girls laid a soft shelled egg. Almost ALL of them ran over there so fast and they all ate it! It was so bizarre! You would have thought I threw their favorite treat in there...

    Arizona Chickens

Ahhhh the chicks are big and beautiful! We’re having so much fun with them and probably half of them are laying. I’ve only witnessed a couple of them laying or in the nest box taking their sweet time but the ones that are laying are much more docile and squat when I try to pet them. The ones...

Wowwww amazing! That means all of them are gonna be baby chicks? There’s so much to learn but I’m having a blast! We’re in the process of building a larger coop. We have a main coop and a couple of makeshift add ons so we’re consolidating. Fun times! Thanks for checking on me

1 - 3 week old chicks runny or solid poo?

They’re all between 2 n 3 weeks. Today it’s 70 in their pin and they’re still comfy- yay! Been so cold at night but warming up significantly this week so that’ll help ALL of us watching the temps for our chicks I would think.

1 - 3 week old chicks runny or solid poo?

I removed the lamp and this is the most calm they’ve been so far! Sleeping away Not sure if it affects them but it seems like the lamp was keeping them awake? They haven’t slept like this since I brought them home! At what outdoor temps and age could we put them outside? Thanks for all your help
