Been living in Illinois a year now. Moved here Feb 2021 during the Ice storm from Spicewood Texas, fun stuff!
It's been a complete 360 change of environment, and I am happily content.
Since being in Illinois I've learned that I can grow plants of all kinds! Which now I have a privacy hedge of roses surrounding my yard and house, as well as climbing roses on my coop. I grew my first tomato this summer, as well as other veggies. Yes, I am not young, however I am soulfully enjoying all the newness surrounding this less traveled path.
I've raised poultry all my life, and I personally love birds of all feathers!!
Last winter I found out just how cold the cold really is--and my chickens and turkey would knock on the door at night to come inside after midnight due to the freezing temps. So, this year I decided to attempt my luck at quail. In case I have to take emergency action during the winter months, I am hoping that it will be easier to maintain the heat lamps on a smaller flock? and if anything, I can bring them inside and my husband can just continue to believe I'm nuts. lol
