Coop is painted and done. Should be a week or two and our chicks will be ready to move in. We have a couple of lavender orps that are just refusing to feather out. Jerks! LOL Planted a couple of grape vines out front so hopefully they grow over the run to feed us and them.
Update. She is not doing so well but still alive. We started giving her infant vitamin drops about two days ago and giving her save a chick vitamin water along with putting her food next to her so she didn't have to move to it to eat. She started laying down with her left foot straight out in...
Hi all. Have my first chicken problem today. It is a lavender orpington chick that is 3 weeks old as of Sunday. Not sure how much she weighs but is a fatty and has grown a lot since we got her about two weeks ago. The problem just started today. When she walks, she is sorta stepping on her...
Thanks! Oh yeah, for sure. It will last a long time with regular maintenance. Sorta overbuilt. LOL I think it is going to be a nice space for 6 hens though so we are happy with it.
The coop is finally done!! Glad I can move on to some other projects now, especially getting back to the garden/yard. All said and done, I am really glad that we decided to build our own. The pre-built ones that we saw were way over priced in comparison. Way smaller with small runs and twice...
Thanks! Yes. The door is under the ramp in the coop and it would have been slightly more difficult to bend down and open/close it from in there so I put it on the outside.
Well pretty much got the run done today. Just need to make a door and tie in the HW cloth at the seems. Ended up being 14 foot by 8 foot. Hope the girls like it. They will be in the coop/run while at work and running in the yard in the evenings/weekends. Hopefully it will make for some...
Put all the hinges on the top as recommended by aart. Thanks! Unfortunately that's all I had time for today. The ever growing run is on the agenda for tomorrow as long as the weather holds out!
Yep, I agree. Really wish I wouldn't have caulked the top of that trim piece. If I start to see rain blowing in I'll scrape and redo, that is the only thing stopping it though. Thought about the winter as well and if they were the other way then I could prop them in the cold as well...
Wow! Looks really nice. The first pictures of the "ribs" made me think it was going to be small but that is definitely not small. LOL I'd imagine all the angles made it a PITA. I feel your pain though. The coop I just built has hurt my brain. Haha.
Got some windows and the chick door done yesterday. Really thought I would get more done than that but I had to think about how I was going to do it for a couple hours before I made the first cut. LOL This coop has racked my brain. Probably easy for a carpenter or builder but as the title...
Looks good. Love that overhang/screened area. This is the first structure I have ever built as well. Ended up being way overbuilt due to mistakes I made along the way. I have learned alot though so I am gonna call it a win.🙃
Optical illusion, although it is not as sloped as I had planned for. All the water runs off of it though. We have had some pretty nasty storms since they were done and I have went out fingers crossed after every one. So far the nest boxes have remained dry as a bone. :celebrate
Update. I have found it extremely difficult to build and take pictures. LOL I have take some over the last few days though so this is where I am now. Got the trim and door done.
Finished the nesting boxes, except for paint on the outside and placing the roll out pads on the inside. I did...
