Month old chicks with bent toes - Lots of Pics Added

I just noticed a 4 month old pullet limping and discovered two deformed/bent toes that were not bent before either! I will add vitamins to their water, but I am thinking it is probably more likely to be a genetic defect? I wrapped her toes tonight because I just could not think of anything...

red line up/down the leg and feet

I know this is an old thread but it surely helped me! One of my two 11 month old roos just developed this red stripe. Since I had two hens with bumblefoot recently, I was very concerned that this was yet some new kind of infection! Glad to know it is probably just my boy growing up.

when do my chicks go with my big birds?

Been two weeks and happy to report all birds still doing ok except the one baby my dog retrieved...nutter story and he's back on the ecollar til the babies get bigger. My fault. Babies are still sleeping together on the floor but they are on the roosts during the day. Only a couple hens get...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I have 16 8 week old pullets that I have raised since day old. They all have tails and most have established combs. The rooster has color markings already. They also are much larger than your bird it seems. My little girls look just like miniature adults right now. I think your girl is...

when do my chicks go with my big birds?

Six weeks worked for me too. I had the 17 chicks in a brooder in the same coop with the 11 big birds ( 9 hens, 2 Roos ). All birds are Welsummer. After a week, I opened a corner of the brooder to allow the chicks access to the big coop as well ascthevability to retreat to safety when...

my girls are no longer free range

I would ask someone else in the sheriffs dept about that. It does not sound right that you have to put up with a loose dog on your property killing your livestock. Where do you live anyway?

How to get chickens in the coop at night

My chickens are not easy to round up before sundown...when they put themselves in. You might be over thinking this. Sounds like your birds know where home is but are not reay for bed til dark.

    Integrating chicks to existing "flock"

I just had great success! My 17 chicks are six weeks old. For the past week, they have been in a wired enclosure under the frosts in the coop. What a mess. My flock is 10 months old and consists of 9 hens and 2 Roos. My coop is 8 x 14 with an attached run of 14 x 24. I let the big birds...

    Rooster Eating Baby Chicks :'(

I have only welsummer birds. added 17 chicks to the flock and released them in coop where they were also brooded for one week in sight of the flock. Happy to report no one is harassing them unless they go to the feeders when the big girls are there. The Roos are very protective as well...

    Organic chicks

I don't know if you have to start with organic chicks in order to have organic chickens and organic eggs. Organic chicks would come from the eggs of parents who were only ever fed organic feed, were organic chicks themselves, and probably lived on organic soil. Since the term organic requires...

    calling any one from missouri

I am so proud of my birds! My vet reports everyone is having such an awful time with ticks this year....none of my family, including my dogs has had even one tick this Spring! My birdies are tick eating machines!!!!

    Cooping Guineas

Here's my outcome: I fed all the birds nutrient All Flock. It is not medicated. All birds were healthy. I also supplied calcium in a container for the hens. The Spring following hatch, the guinea fowl began attacking the dominant roo mercilessly when theynwere ranging. I thought they would...
