    Chicks being crushed in incubator

And it seems I’ve been a bit rigid about opening the incubator during hatches. I’ve always took a “do not open on pain of death” approach, but knowing I can assist quickly will make things easier.

    Chicks being crushed in incubator

I guess general consensus is too many eggs in. Perhaps I’ve just been lucky in the past. And normally I do remove some eggs during candling so it would be less full. I guess that’s a place to start.

    Chicks being crushed in incubator

It’s a Brinsea Ovation 56. I had 56 eggs in it. It was full even after candling because there were a lot of Black Copper Maran eggs and I was having a hard time seeing what’s what. Because of the humidity and fluff built up during the hatch you can’t see much through the dome. Here’s a picture...

    Chicks being crushed in incubator

I am having a new issue with slightly younger/newly hatched chicks being smothered by the slightly older chicks that hatch first in the incubator. My last hatch I didn’t realize it was happening, and I woke up to thirteen chicks crushed/smothered on the incubator floor under a bunch of happy...

Isabella Orpington hen cross Blue Orpington Roo

So the wise sages of Backyard chickens are correct again. :bow:bow:bow Thankyou oh wise chicken masters for keeping me sane as I embark on my crazy chicken raising adventure. All joking aside Thankyou because I was really doubting myself even though I’ve been trying to research and learn as...

Isabella Orpington hen cross Blue Orpington Roo

So I have more questions following an update on these two. I currently have eggs hatching from the cross of my Lavender Roo (pictured) and the Isabella hen shown in the pictures with him. And so far the two chicks that have hatched look black/very dark (they’re still wet). 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ After...

    Pure Ameraucana?

Thankyou everyone. You’ve all confirmed my thoughts. He is beautiful but unfortunately not what I need.

    Pure Ameraucana?

So is dubbing intentional “docking” of the tips?

    Pure Ameraucana?

Hi there, I’m looking to purchase a new Ameraucana rooster and found this guy online. The lady said she was told that he was pure when she got him, but I’m not very experienced and have some doubts. His wattles look kinda big to me and she said he had frostbite on his “tips” and lost them...

    Need some expert duck advice...

What you’re saying makes lot of sense and as far as ingesting the eggs personally I probably wouldn’t care, but because we do sell eggs as well I would want to “follow protocol”. And we also do have Border Collies and they get eggs so would want to be cautious about that as well.

    Bielefelder thread!!!!

I recently got this Bielefelder trio from an elderly couple that had to move to town. He told me they were silver Bielefelders. They came from GradeEhFarms up here in Canada-which I know does raise Silver Bielefelders. But without sounding ignorant-these birds in general look “brown” not...

Is this a frizzle X chick?

Uggg. Just when I think I’m understanding this. I’m trying to find the site - but I thought that I read that there is some gene mutation that hides the frizzle so that in rare cases (and the site said there were different opinions on how rare it actually is) a smooth bird has a mutation that...

Is this a frizzle X chick?

So sorry, maybe I’m getting confused here. So IF these chicks are smooth feathered, and bred to only other smooth feathered- they can still produce 50% frizzled chicks? Or is that only possible with the gene mutation that hides the frizzle?

Is this a frizzle X chick?

I think I’m going chicken crazy. I was dreaming about polish frizzled Roos last night. 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤪. The chicken addiction is taking over slowly. I have been reading a lot about frizzles since the discovery and learning as much as I can now that I’m going to have some. lol. How common is the...

Is this a frizzle X chick?

Yeah the first three are the same chick just wanted good pictures. The last theee are all the same chick (different from the first though). But the consensus is that it is frizzled……so these are not purebred polish?
