The building is 8x12. Based on feedback I'm going to add a large gable vent at each end then I'm going to add 2 more large windows in the back left side and one on the front right side. Would that be sufficient?
It's mid April in Georgia so it's finally about to get hot. I want to make sure my girls have enough ventilation. I have 3 hens and 4 pullets. In the mornings I come it and open the doors to really get some ventilation in there but I'm wondering it's enough. I like closing the doors at night for...
My family likes to sleep and are not early risers. I don't want my chickens cooped up until 9 or so especially when summer gets here. What are the best automatic coop doors and please include a link if you can!
Yes, the ladder is supposed to be the roost but they've used it once or twice. They like snuggling on the ground and I'm wondering if that's normal. I had the nesting boxes on the floor at first but then put them on the table after I read something about floor space. Should I create another...
It will last longer with a tarp but could you check your local ads/Craigslist/Facebook Marketplace for one that someone built to sell? You may be able to find something way nicer, it'd already be put together and it would last longer. We just went through this and decided against prefab. Good...
Yes! I live in Georgia so they will need a lot of ventilation during the summer. We plan on building a screened wall and door about 2-3 feet into the coop to provide room for storage and so that we can keep the heavy wooden doors open in the summer. ☺️
So after looking at teeny tiny, cheaply made, VERY expensive prefab chicken coops we decided to try and salvage an old shed on our property that was in it's last leg of life. I think we're off to a good start but there are still a few things I would like to do before I call it "done". Because...
They're just 4 golden comets we got for eggs and for the experience. Nothing fancy but my 4 year old would be a little upset if something happened. What I don't look forward to is walking in on a snake after eggs in my coop. I would really like to avoid this.
