    This hen is a little older than the rest of the flock, and her eggs are larger, too. Any idea what's happening to cause this?

    Seminolewind, Thank you for acknowledging my loss. . I am very attached to my hens and this was a surprising turn of events for me. I've not had any health issues with by birds prior to this. . . I will be more observant from now on. .

    Good reminder! The chicken yard is fairly protected but I know predators can be sneaky. I will put her in the regular coop at night. . . and luckily I will be working from home most of the next couple of days. So I can monitor the situation.

    I have set up the brooder (rabbit hutch) in the chicken yard to keep her comfortable and near her pals. Aspirin in water and lots of TLC. She is my favorite hen and best layer in the yard.
