Hey everyone! We hatched out 12 silkies for the first time. Out of the 6 we kept, I’m worried 5 of them may be Roos!
I checked the silkie sexing guide and most of our chicks appear to have big combs for only 6 weeks, but this is also our first time with silkies.
We are obviously going to...
I am sad to say that we lost her shortly after my last update. No one else in the flock showed any symptoms or illness so I believe it may have been an isolated case.
It is very heartbreaking to lose them, especially when you can’t always determine what it is or how to help them. Hoping your...
Thank you so much for the website, I went ahead and ordered some last night. She is still with us this morning, but unfortunately not much change. She is taking water and a little bit of wet food. I gave her a little vetrx that I have on hand in a feeble attempt to help. Trying to keep her as...
We have not added any new birds to the flock but we do have pretty heavy wild bird traffic in our neighborhood. This evening her breathing seems much more even but is still struggling. She did manage to drink some water and a little egg yolk. I am hoping she will get better as well. If not I...
Thank you so much for the fast response! I just treated our flock at the end of July with Safeguard. I did a five day treatment with .25 per 1/4 pound dosing. I usually don’t treat again for another 6 months. There are no foam or bubbles in her eyes, and looking in her throat I did not see any...
Hello all, looking for our hen Dumptruck is a 7 month old Easter egger hen. Yesterday I noticed she was making wheezing noises while breathing. There were no other symptoms, no coughing or sneezing. After some research I settled on probably stridor and was going to let it run its course. However...
Just posting a week update on these babies. Not included is Sparkle Pants as there is really no change there. Walnut I feel could go either way at this point. But would love to hear that (hopefully) she is still looking like a pullet for now. Pecky and Pecan don’t show much change.
Woohoo! Great news so far. Our first ever flock, all five chicks were obvious cockerels at 8 weeks so we are happy to at least have some hope this go around 😂
We have four 7 week old chicks we are hoping for everyone’s opinion on :) their father is a lavender Orpington and the possible mothers are Rhode Island Red and Easter Eggers. I have mixed thoughts about this bunch but hoping for at least one pullet. Our thoughts at the moment are Walnut and...
Hello all! I am wondering if I can sex these chicks I was gifted from a friend based off of their feathering at this point? The chicks are 4 weeks old and they are bred from a lavender roo with possible mothers being rhode island reds and Easter eggers. All of the Easter egger hens have pea...
I can’t thank you enough for this response! Absolutely helped reassure me and some really great advice for our climate. I have been seeing small lesions on some of their combs but there are only one or two on each bird and do not seem to be worsening.
Thank you so much! She’s the only one with the bites and she roosts in the middle of the bar which is why I was hoping it wasn’t those darn moves again!!
