    Tapeworms?

Thank you, all! Very helpful advice. Looks like I can get my hands on Equimax quickly but is it ok to give to my girl with the tapeworms on top of the Albendazole she already received? They all got the 1st dose of Albendazole on 8/30 and I was planning to re-dose 10-14 days after. Do I withhold...

    Tapeworms?

I am deworming my flock with albendazole and they received their first dose at 20mg/kg. On the 3rd full day after 1st dose, I noticed what I think are tapeworm segments in one of my girls poop. The white segments were moving but seemed to stop after some time. I followed the rest of the girls...

    Lethargic hen, loss of appetite

I have been doing that and we did just treat the flock with ivermectin almost 4 weeks ago for mites and the coop was treated with elector psp. Can I treat her again with ivermectin? I have not found any mites since treatment but if it will not hurt her to treat again then I will asap.

    Lethargic hen, loss of appetite

Update: I have started torpedo feeding her after watching a video I found on another post here. It seems to have helped some but not a huge change. She is still incredibly sleepy but when she does wake she will scratch around for a short while before falling asleep again. Her poop is still green...

    Lethargic hen, loss of appetite

My Polish hen is very unwell and I am at a loss. She is just shy of 2 years old and has been extremely healthy and a great layer. About a week and a half ago, I noticed her becoming more sleepy throughout the day. At that time, she was not lethargic, very much alert, just more sleepy than usual...

    Dewormer suggestions?

I am looking to deworm my flock of 8 hens. Valbazen appears to be on a manufacturer backorder and I can't find it available anywhere, even online. My girls were given ivermectin 3 weeks ago for mites but I believe we are still dealing with a possible worm issue. From what I've read, the overuse...

Sometimes it takes a lot of calcium citrate to help an old hen build an egg shell

Thanks for your help! If you don't mind answering one more question for me, is there any benefit (or harm) in giving them calcium carbonate tablets orally? I know the calcium citrate is more quickly available for their bodies to utilize, but would administering calcium carbonate help them build...

Sometimes it takes a lot of calcium citrate to help an old hen build an egg shell

Oops, sorry. We are in the US, south suburbs of Chicago. It has been very hot and humid (sometimes 85-90% humidity) so I wouldn't doubt that they are heat stressed. But I do all the things I know to do to help with that; electrolytes and blocks of ice in their water, sprinklers, frozen veggies...

Sometimes it takes a lot of calcium citrate to help an old hen build an egg shell

So they do have access to oyster shell 24/7 that I top off every couple of days to make sure it isn't just small pieces or powder. One of my hens in questions rarely ever consumes the oyster, while I see the other hen eating some fairly often. They don't get a lot of kitchen scraps besides the...

Sometimes it takes a lot of calcium citrate to help an old hen build an egg shell

I realize this thread is a few years old so I apologize but hoping I can get your advice on what seems to be a very similar issue I am having. Both of my EEs, just shy of 2 years old, began laying soft shelled or shell-less eggs on and off for a couple months now. More recently, on a few...

    Lash egg?

I treated my girl with antibiotics after and she did resume laying normal eggs again. She stopped laying during her molt and then an egg here or there during the winter but resumed regularly laying again this summer. However, she's now having an issue of laying soft-shell eggs quite frequently...

    Hens laying soft-shell eggs

Looking for any advice regarding a few of my girls laying soft-shell eggs. For context, one of my Easter Eggers, Lindy, who is just shy of 2 years old, dealt with a vent prolapse last year. She was seen by a vet and had recovered. She occasionally laid an odd soft-shell egg in the months after...

    Grief group

A week ago today I lost one of my 5 month old pullets. She was the sweetest baby, my friend, and my favorite girl. I hand fed her via dropper while she was just a tiny chick because she became so weak from coccidiosis. She recovered after being treated and thrived from that moment on. She was...
