I have 6 rouen ducks in with 18 wyandottes chicks, they seem to be getting along for the most part so that isn't an issue; however, I have read that it is a good idea to switch the ducks over to a grower ration after two weeks. My birds are all about 4 weeks old, and I have put some gamebird...
Thanks deb...I am actually located in Nebraska so YES we get lots of snow in the winter. I have done a lot of reading on the subject and a lot of it said as long as you have a cold hardy breed and don't close it up too much too early they will actually adjust quite well to the cold. A lot of...
We poured the concrete floor a couple of weeks ago, but before that we had a couple of rains while it was still just dirt. The coop itself is pretty shielded on the South side, and it stayed dry with the last rains so I guess we will see how things go. Thanks for the idea of putting in the...
We will also be building roosts and hanging the feeder and waterer. We will be building the outside run space in the next few weeks. It is going to be about 10 feet wide in front and wrap around the far corner to the back wall of the coop so they will have lots of space until i get them...
This is where I am now. Still want to get the outside painted and the inside whitewashed and we have to get the hardware cloth put up on the top part of the divider wall, but not bad i dont think for how far we have come.
Thanks...I have heard of the deep litter and thought about using it; however, evidence from the old wood floor indicated that rats have been a problem in the past. Plus in the process of cleaning out what was left by the previous property owner I actually found a mummified rat carcass...yuk...
I am a newbie to the chicken world. My chicks and ducks are supposed to be here the middle of next week...8 silver lace Wyandotte, 8 golden lace Wyandotte, 3 blue lace red Wyandotte and 6 Rouen ducks. I am looking at a little bigger scale than I may be prepared for, but our coop was already on...
As a side note...I don't know if you are in to pinterest or not, but I have found a lot of very helpful information on there too, most of them bring you back to BYC, but it saves you the time of sifting through all of the threads that don't apply for you.

I am sure by now you don't need any input, but I had something to add. There is a lot of speculation about how GSDs require a lot of training and hard work, which is somewhat true. I had the pleasure of spending a great deal of time with a 1/4 German bred intact male GSD a few years ago, he...
I am waiting very anxiously for 8 silver-lace Wyandotte, 8 golden-lace Wyandotte, 3 blue-lace red Wyandotte, and 6 Rouen Ducks. They are supposed to be here between July 21 and 23.
