Poke is not actually poisonous. It is very high in vitamin A. To prepare poke for human consumption, pick the young tender leaves. Boil in water, pour the water off and refill with water, bring to a boil, pour the water off a second time. Some people boil it a third time, I don't. Strain off the...
Silkie roosters get a glob above the beak. It resembles a walnut half. It is a fleshy structure similar to a comb but shaped like an oval or half of a walnut. Females do not have this. A females beak has soft down feathers at the top of the beak. Hope this helps. Looks like the black Silkie may...
can someone tell me what color name my rooster is? Is this creole or wild? I'm new to polish chickens but I hatched my three. I have an incubator full right now. Anyway, I'd love to know what is the color name for Bob, my polish rooster. Thanks in advance.
The two roosters have just started breeding. Two baby chicks have hatched so far. They didn't mess up the hens, so they are polite. Still available! Freebies! One gold laced sebrite/silkie mix and one black sebrite/silkie mix as shown in picture. :-)
I have two nice half silkie half sebrite roosters in need of a new home. They hatched Sept 2014. They are not very noisy. I will attempt to add a photo. Call me, pick up only.(341-7433)
Teflon or non stick coatings on pans, cooking pots, etc, if heated on high they do give off toxic fumes and will kill both chickens and tropical birds. Never take the chance, get rid of your non stick coated cookware. I use cast iron or stainless steel cookware only.
eggs from left to right, jumbo from a little black bar, large brown from a rr, and last but not least a tiny egg from my polish top hat! She laid her first egg today and today she turned 20 weeks old! She will get layer pellets tomorrow, no more baby chick starter for her!
We must be neighbors! I'm by stonelick also. I am on the North end near edenton. I have young white silkies, seabrites, and my laying hens are two ee, two reds and two big white hens with black around their necks.
I recently sold two females, they are right at 4 months old and seriously, I'm not sure they are girls. They have the ball of puff hair that doesn't sweep back like the boys. I just told the girl, if they start crowing, bring them back. I'll make good on the deal.
I'm close to Cincinnati. The roosters crow at each other like they are competing and well, I guess they are. I don't have enough hens to warrant so many roosters. Fortunately, I am in the country, so it's not a big problem, but I would rather find homes for them where they are needed. I still...
I have a black and white we, she is shy. I wish I would have spent more time with her when I had her in the brooder. She was hatched April 2014, she's a good layer, has a very light green egg, large eggs. She lays about six eggs per week. She is low down on the pecking order, I think this has a...
