    Pekin duck with no nares

We have a pekin duckling that has a small under bite and no nares. She breathes through her mouth. She is eating well and thriving. I am guessing that there is nothing to be done but had never seen this before and wanted to make sure that there wasn't anything special that we needed to do.

    Do ducks eat live fish?

They are in a large pen. We use to free range them but we had a bobcat move into the area so we had to pen them to protect them. Normally they get fed in the am and pm but was wondering if we could replace the night feeding with fish.

    Do ducks eat live fish?

How many of these small fish a day can ducks eat? We live next to a reiver and get free baby fish all the time that they love! My Pekins will eat everything in 5 minutes until they are gone. But how much is too much?

Here is the goose (all grown up) in with the ducks while we are building a safe goose enclosure. We unfortunately have had a bobcat show up so we cannot free range anything right now.

    Roosters and chicks

The weather has been so variable here that we have kept the chicks in the house until they are 1-2 weeks old depending on the weather currently. Then they go into a room attached to our barn that they have free run of. Our 1 month olds have been integrated into our permanent pens. The older...

    Geese stealing eggs

Well the goose hatched her three Rouen eggs so we now have 3 rouen babies who think the goose is their mama. All the geese and ducks in the pen are very protective of them. Now for her to start actually laying eggs.

    Geese stealing eggs

Thankfully they are about the same time frame. Hopefully it will be a good hatch for her first hatching!

    Geese stealing eggs

Does anyone else have problems with geese stealing duck eggs? We went out the other day and there was one of my Toulouse geese rolling the Rouen duck eggs into her nest to sit on. I have heard of people placing duck eggs under geese but had not heard that the geese would actually steal the eggs...

    Roosters and chicks

I have about 50 baby chicks about 2 weeks old. I have an extra rooster that has been kept by himself and would like to add him to this flock. Can I do this or is this not advisable?

    Introducing hens to small flock

We tend to do a slight variation of what jaredthefox does. We have a small pen next to our other chickens that we can keep new members in for a couple of days then at bedtime on day 2 we release the new ones into the flock. By this time they are already use to them and there usually isn't too...

    Raising Geese 101

Thanks for the advice. When we got down there it was actually African grey geese that he had (which I suspected) but we got one (unfortunately 1 is all that was left when we got there). My kids play with her (or him) everyday. Our ducks love him (or her) too! Our Toulouse geese should be here...

    Raising Geese 101

We have raised chickens before and are currently raising. Recently we have added ducks and have ordered 5 Toulouse geese to start raising geese. My daughter wants to raise rabbits. The seller that we found a good price for rabbits also has 3 Grey Chines Swan geese. So I am wondering should I...
