We have had 2 of ours killed by a hawk this year. After the first one we don't let them out unless we are going to be outside as well. My husband stepped inside for maybe 2 minutes and it got my chicken in that period of time. Almost like it was just waiting for us to leave the chickens...
The surprises are so fun! I will update for sure with more pictures. My daughter is the one hatching them for us and she just messaged that another silver just hatched!
Hard to say this young. Mine I thought for sure was a pullet because of the top feathers but started getting wattles then started crowing at about 8 weeks old. Here is a picture that says pullet if only looking at the top feathers. Now at 11 weeks old and still looks the same. Although I read...
Two 9 week old Polish (1 is a frizzle) and two 4 month old Silkies. The non frizzle polish with the very full top has started to already crow so sure we already know that one 😁 these are my only chickens, just getting started 😊
Thank you everyone for your input. I'm just more confused now than I was before since I have been readimg so much on BYC and the web religiously for 2 days now and it bounces back and forth. One question I haven't been able to find an answer to is the comb. I know that it will be V shape but...

They are white crested black polish and roosters and hens both have very visible wattles. That was one of my concerns a while back until someone told me that it was normal for this breed and then I looked it up and sure enough it's true.
Update.. I sent the photos to a couple people who raise polish chickens and the all say that they are both hens. They say that the one is most likely trying to show dominance since I have no roosters in the flock. Let's hope they are right since the one doing the crowing is the one they say is...
Not sure if this would make any difference but we have 16 week silkies. Still. Ot sure if they are hen or roo either but my polish are almost as big as the silkies and the silkies are twice their age.
So I'm trying to read up on all of the polish and crowing and either hen or roosters. I have read that white Crest black polish birds whether hen or rooster will most likely have prominent wattles and seen pictures of laying hens with these type of wattles. So now those are kind of off my...
