When it rains, which isn't often, they enjoy being in the rain and chasing bugs. They have another coop that isn't in a tree that they can go into to get out of the rain, they prefer to be in the rain. Most of the rain we get is in the summer so they enjoy the drop in temperature. My chickens...

How do you feed your flock?

    1. How old are the members of your flock(s) & what does it (do they) consist of? Currently I have 38 chickens, 3 are roosters. They range in age from 2 years-8 weeks. Breeds are barred rock, Australorp, Red sexlink, brahmas, Wyandotte, Welsummer, Ancona, Phoenix, bantam cochin, polish. 2. What...

Since they refuse to sleep in coops and only go in them to lay eggs, we got ride of the large coop. We are working on building another tree house for them in their other large tree.

Freeloaders: what might the problem be?

Have you gone on an Easter egg hunt? It's like Easter everyday at my house and I am always finding new places my chickens decide to lay. It could be they just need a couple more weeks. Only a handful of my 25 chicks, hatched 3/7, have started laying. Lots of factors go into hens laying or not...

I think another breed you could add to your list for first time chicken raisers, is a red sex-link (golden comet, red star, cinnamon queen, golden buff, etc.) They are excellent layers, friendly/docile, not overly loud (like my Anconas lol), can free range or be cooped up, and will provide...

This is why we built ours a tree house, we hose all the poop off and water the tree at the same time 🤗 we gave up years ago trying to force them to sleep in a coop and built a fully enclosed run around one of our large trees. Some sleep inside the run in the tree or on top of the tree house...

How much do you pay for feed??

I currently have 38 chickens, I beileve, I pay about $70-100 a month on feed, I mix all flock feed, layer pellets, and scratch together in a large container. I feed them about 6-8 cups in the morning and late afternoon, I don't free feed them since more food would be going to the doves and wild...

All my chickens sleep high up in a tree or on top of their fully enclosed coop/run. They free range and at bed time they all get as high as they can. Since I live in Arizona, I let them sleep in the trees. I feel like it is probably a lot cooler in the trees than in a coop. I also always have at...

Curious what breed these 3 hens are.

I bought 3 blue Australorps from one of my local feed stores, I am just curious if they are actually blue Australorps or something else. From my understanding blue Australorps aren't that common. Thanks for your help

    Missing eggs

Could absolutely be from them stepping on the egg and then eating it. My hens do things like that all the time. Sometimes I have 3 broody hens trying to sit on the same eggs, ending up with one broody hen sitting on tip of a hen who is sitting on the eggs. Chickens are characters and they will...

    Missing eggs

I have had broody hens push eggs out of the nest before because they knew the egg was bad. Maybe she pushed the egg out and something ate the egg 🤷‍♀️ if there isn't a rotten egg smell I wouldn't think the egg exploded, but it can be possible. I had a broody hen sitting on eggs and an egg...
