My flock are coming along nicely, with the first batch laying just over 120 eggs a day,
and my second batch growing well, despite losing several to illness despite a constant feeding of antibiotics and vitamins.
Recently they've been pecking at hens who have just laid their daily egg, until...
Mine are 15 weeks today, and looking good and all very happy.
I've just build a fence around outside their coop where they can enjoy fresh air at their leisure,
and feed on the spinach planted outside.
I've lost a few to date due to pecking and a rogue mongoose who got in somehow one night...
I bought trays of day old chicks for egg laying and wondered what their normal lifespan is?
Do they moult or stop laying at any time?
After (if) they stop laying for a while do they return to laying again?
Also, if I put a rooster amongst a few of them, will they breed and hatch?

As bedding / floor I am using rice husk, as its free where I am and easy to come by.
I have noticed an increasing amount of dust around each room on window ledges etc.
How often should I clean out this dust...

If I used the whole garden area it would be just under an acre, almost 40,000 sq feet.
I think i'll section it off and use it each section every few days as it takes 2 weeks for spinach to reach size.
