Ok, so I’ve discovered that the humidity is the first red flag.
It was way too high (way way too high at over 90%). The temperature reads true at 37 degrees Celsius though.
Having removed all water from the unit I’ve brought it down to 45%, which is around the ambient humidity for the room it...
Temperature is 37 degrees celcius (98,6f), and humidity doesn’t tell me. I don’t think it controls that. There is a fan that moves air around, and three bottles attached to the unit that I fill with water. It auto turns. I will have a look at the link, thank you.
I don’t know that it has humidity settings, and I wouldn’t know where to start with calibrating the temperature… I can stick a thermometer in there and see if it reads true as a start.
It’s not an expensive machine, though not super cheap either…
I have been incubating some chicken eggs for a friend - and although I have a high fertilisation rate of about 70/80%, I am having a high early mortality rate.
The first round only one made it through to the end, and then I was busy on the day of hatching and it died about 1/3 way through...
The female is doing just fine now! The next day she rested in her little seclusion area and had no problems at all. In the first day her neck wasn't quite right and she didn't have full head control, or wing control, it any control really... It is mid summer in southern Spain, so yes it has got...
She wasn't egg bound, I checked that, vent looked fine too. She laid an egg this morning, can stand, walk, and laid an egg. She is still acting somewhat unusually, but she is somewhat unusual 😉 could it have been heat stroke?! They have plenty of access to plenty of water, free access to open...
What do we do...
This afternoon we noticed blue led in front of a tree panting, we picked her up as she was led in full sun and loved her to the shade, but we noticed that she couldn't walk or weight bare.
Her feet arent spread out like usual and they were both flat out behind her in a claw...
We used to leave our ducks free at night roosting on the edge of the water, a year they were fine! We have approx 6 foot stone walls with a further 6 foot of wire mesh fence all around.
We lost a duck, we thought hmm maybe they flew out I'm sure we will find it, the next night 2 gone. All...
Thank you for the very in depth and informative reply!
Some of the chickens we have, the beak was probably cut a little too far back 😔. But they still eat just fine, it just causes them some issues with foraging and getting that worm can take a couple of tries! We will breed ours we hope and...
No it doesn't have problems eating, except being messy with the crumble 😂 they have open access to adult food too and they have no problems with that. And they are growing exceptionally well.
I hope all the toenails will grow back!
I can't imagine for the life of me why it would be done... I...
No it was certainly trimmed as it was a small baby when we got it, it wouldn't have had time to grind it down and when we noticed and looked properly it was red and raw, in combo with the toenails we think that it was certainly cut and the bottom bill is just fine.
The local way to feed babies...
Normally the ducks have a bill that is kind of hooked over the end of the bill. The top part of the bill is hooked, you shouldnt be able to see the bottom part of the bill like that. It's not like with chickens when they clip the whole beak.
