    Sumatra Thread!

Snow is finally starting to melt. Time to set up the breeding pens!

    Sumatra Thread!

Look good. I'm assuming male's tail will grow a little more and you're right about being inside. Once he gets outside he should darken up quite a bit. Is that brassy color because of flash on back in pic 2? That would be a reason for concern. Female could look a little more "active." She isn't...

    Show off your roosters

Sumatra rooster! Pic of this summer. Unfortunately, not alive anymore. But I have some great chicks from him.

Rarest breed of chicken in the US?

Something I have never seen through my several years of showing was a great (even good) BBR Cubalaya standard size at a show. I tried to raise them for a couple year but never had any luck.

    Sumatra Thread!

Some females from breeding pens this summer. I'm excited to see how the chicks turn out for next year. If only I had time to take them to shows I was able to get several blacks and I ended up with a lot of extra blues and splashes. At least one of the hens is about 8 years old. From my...

    Sumatra Thread!

I might be interested in trying out some duns in the future. Please let me know if you have some eggs available in the spring. Thanks!

    Blue and Splash Sumatras

Blue and Splash Sumatras available. Hatched this summer. These are extras that I have. Some of the blues will be show quality. Some just don't have the lacing I like to see. Splashes are great for making some real good show-quality blues. I've been fortunate to do very well at APA shows in the...

Review by '' on item 'American'

Great geese to have for a backyard flock. I've had them for about 10 years and have enjoyed them. They are a larger breed and therefore create a larger mess. However, they are generally docile (except for early spring) and make great mothers.

How long should I keep incubating

Chicken eggs? If that is the case then they are a week overdue. I would be surprised if they are alive. Was the temperature correct?

    Racoon Attack, VERY injured leg

If the leg is in pretty bad condition then I would consider culling her. I've never seen a chicken recover from the condition you described. I've had a couple over the years.

what is this poor little guy

Looks like a hatchery Rhode Island Red if I had to guess. They are lesser quality sometimes and not as dark red.

    Please check my ID's

It would appear to me that they are all roosters. I'd need a better look at the back end of #1 to be 100% positive but #2 and #3 are definitely roosters. Some nice barred rooster though! Their feathers are still worth quite a bit for fly fishing and hair.

    Difficulty hatching Geese this year?

    My new bantam modern game!

Time. I went away to school. I have a full time job now as an ag teacher and I hope to have some time in the summer to start back into a couple breeds. Moderns were definitely one of my favorites. When I first got them I remember it was difficult finding any in the midwest. Are there any...

    Difficulty hatching Geese this year?

Is there something special you do with the eggs in the incubator? I've never had much luck putting them in there. It is a Sportsman and it does an excellent job with chickens and quail. Do they require more humidity?
