Questions for the more experienced chicken keepers here.
I have two coops which are side-by-side and separated by chicken wire. I want to combine both into a single flock and open the doors between the two coops.
Pen 1 has 17 hens and 2 roosters, and Pen 2 has 15 hens and two roosters. The...
I'm not sure of their age. I bought the house and moved in mid-August, and the chickens were conveyed with the house. They were not laying at that time but started a couple of weeks later, so around September 1.
Pen 1 are several months older than Pen 3. Pen 2 are the oldest. Physical layout of the coop spaces puts Pen 2 in the middle, so they have exposure to both of the other two flocks.
My coop has three separate spaces for three flocks. The runs are next to one another with only chicken wire separating the flocks. Each sub-coop has its own nesting boxes, runs, roosting space, food/water, etc.
Pen #1 - 12 hens and 2 roosters all raised together from hatchlings. They are...
Will enjoy opinions from more experienced chicken keepers. I'm definitely a newbie.
The hen discussed above is doing so much better. She is walking on the injured leg albeit with a limp. She is still in the cage within the pen, so she is with the other chickens yet protected from them...

I'll have to get a picture tomorrow. It's dark out there now. However, I looked at it earlier today, and it seemed to be healing. The fact she is eating and drinking seemed to be a good sign.
Thanks for the reply. That's encouraging. She is inside a pen within the pen which puts her with her flock. I have her separated, because I read that other hens may peck her to death when exploring the visible injury to her back. I'll continue the current routine to see if she eventually puts...
I am new to owning chickens having lived in the city all my life. I now live in a nice country setting, and I inherited 31 chickens when I bought my home. Talk about being thrown into the deep end!
I have several breeds, and I am still trying to learn them all. Right now they are simply...
I am new to owning chickens having moved to a country home mid-August. All was well until the flock went to the property next door where the owner has two bird dogs. They caught one of the girls, and each time she tried to escape the dogs caught her and returned her to the spot where they caught...
