I am sorta in the same boat. I have two copper turkey chicks and 6 New Hampshire chicks. They are around 3-4 weeks old and are all residing in the same tub. The turkey chicks are starting to peck the chick noses and are causing bleeding.
Since the turkeys are now feeding fine, should I separate...
It is impossible to get them to stand still long enough to get a half decent shot. I will try this again in a week or two. Will just add pics to this thread.
Thank You for the reply
Steve
I purchased 6 Araucana chicks from my local, reputable Ace Hardware. They are about 4 1/2 weeks old. I was told they were all hens. But I have tail feathers growing out and I am concerned half are Roosters.
What pictures do you need to help me figure out what they are?? Head shots, legs...
One of my three BSL hens won't lay eggs and she just sits in the dirt. If I go out to the coop, she is just as curious as the other two and pecks and scratches, but when I leave, she just lays down. She was the hen that my RIR rooster mounted the most before I sent him to a new owner.
Anyone...
Thank You for your advise and experiences.
I have been bringing in the chicks at night, but they are just too big for the rubbermaid tote I have been using. I would keep them in the large indoor dog crate, but my Schipperke (sp) must be contained when I leave the house so I have to keep it...
I have not found anything telling me when to integrate my chicks into my small flock of 3 hens. My Araucana's, 6 of them, are around 3 1/2 weeks old. They are starting to feather. For the past 2 weeks, I have been putting the chicks in the coop, in a fenced off section, with my 3 black sex link...
I am facing the same concerns. I have 3 Black Sex Link hens, I don't know how old, but they are older. 3 weeks ago, I purchased 6 Araucana pullets that were about a week old. All are doing great. They pullets have been kept in the house under a heat lamp since I got them.
My run is basically 12...
I will agree with the previous comments about herders herding and guards guarding. I must say that if I truly thought my aussies would protect my flock and not try to eat them, then I would not have put a foot deep concrete wall all the way around the coop. I was JUST talking to my neighbor at...
Neil, I haven't figured out the quote button, but your comment about Aussies being an "American Creation" is completely false. Aussies originated in Spain. I have bred Aussies for many years, so I am extremely familiar with the history and traits of this awsome breed. If you are interested in...
All I have seen concerning hatching out eggs is using an incubator. Would it be better to just let the hen set on them and see if they hatch on their own? I have 3 Black Sex link hens and 1 rooster and he is Casanova. He mounted them at least 2 times each today, so I don't think fertility will...
