    Hello from Baltimore!

well living in city limits, I have to upgrade my fence, I have to build the coop, get it inspected (knowing Baltimore god only knows how long that will take) and receive my permit all before getting any chicks or pullets. Dels are my first choice of breed so when I'm ready to start I'll PM you...

    Hello from Baltimore!

Wow, that's awesome thank's Maeschak! Unfortunately I didn't know they were good flying birds, and even if I could take them on my setup won't be ready for another month or two, so I am afraid our timing is just bad right now.

    Hello from Baltimore!

Hentimesten YOU ARE AWESOME! thank you so much for the help I can now plan out all my start up material costs, it looks like about 250 to build the coop, plus another 100 for fencing supplies but I might be able to cut that down, feeder and waterer can be built with materials already on hand...

    Hello from Baltimore!

I'm going for 4 egg layers, and maybe some meat birds, but fresh eggs are my primary objective. I have quite an overgrowth problem in my back yard so if they take it down to dirt I'd actually be happy with that. it's one of the reasons I started looking into raising chickens. Oh I just thought...

    Hello from Baltimore!

Sorry my math was off, a 6x6 gives me 36'sq for 6 chickens max. gives them 6' each. the free ranging area they would have is 2200sqft and I'd give additional feed as suggested by mtngirl35. As for wing clipping, I haven't done any research on it, haven't gotten that far yet but I plan on a 7'...

    Hello from Baltimore!

hentimesten, thanks! the plan is to have 4 full sized laying hens, and maybe rotating pair for meat (all plans subject to change see murphy's law). I was looking at heirloom breeds like the delaware until I realized the website failed to mention how hard they would be to find, now I'm looking...

    Hello from Baltimore!

I am currently working on a spreadsheet for start up costs. I planned on building a 5gal auto feeder and a waterer to supplement their diet can you over feed them? the fence I currently have is too short about 4ft but I will be supplementing it's height with rebar attached to the current fence...

    Hello from Baltimore!

Hello all! I've been thinking about raising a few (4 laying hens with room for 2 broilers/roosters) chickens and I want to make sure its right for me before sinking in the capital and possibly creating a bad situation for myself, the chickens, my neighbors etc. I live on the edge of Baltimore...
