From what I have experienced... Foxes, coyotes and bobcats will grab a chicken and run. Bears will rip them apart near the coop. Raccoons can reach through fences and pull chickens apart, sometimes only removing their head. Skunks frequently get into my coop (squeezing through 2"x4" fencing)...
Foxes and cats will kill and cache food when it is abundant. I am not sure if raccoons cache, but they do partake in mass killings. I have had a bobcat kill chickens over a period of days, but never in the same day. Coyotes, like dogs, will kill all the chickens for the pure sport of it. I have...
The only grizzly bear in CA is on the state flag. All others have been killed. However, black bears can be a real problem. Check out these pictures from last year: http://www.lucky13ranch.us/beardamage.htm
I have rebuilt the coop door with 4x4s and so far the bears have not got in. I also...
I have seen various dominate hens mounting the other hens in my flock. It does happen somewhat regularly. I can see the hens through the window from where I am working. I just ignore it.
If the hawk is swooping down so close and you are present, I think I would try using a garden hose on it. A shot of water may be enough to make it think twice and not hurt the hawk.
I have had just about every predator kill my chickens, but not a hawk from what I can tell. I have seen hawks...

The firm "no" from training early on...
About scaring them off, the long story is... over the past few years, I have seen some evidence that a bear was poking around the coop. Last year, I moved the coop a little further from the house. It is the same basic design the previous owners had for 15 years. This past Nov. around 3am with a...

This setup has kept out raccoons, bobcats, foxes and coyotes. I have a raccoon that tries to dig under every night. It hits the buried fencing and gives up. It has killed a few chickens by grabbing them and pulling them through the horse fencing. Adding multiple layers of chicken wire...

People have also been wondering what the scat looks like. They left three piles. I added a bottle for a size reference.
