    Cold Temps ??

Yes. They get a good handful of meal worms during the day every day. They had scrambled eggs earlier this week. And we just picked up the feather repair high protein feed a couple days ago. We’ve been giving scratch before they roost to help produce heat. It was one thing when it was just one...

    Cold Temps ??

Super worried here in Wisconsin! First winter with 4 Golden Comets, 2 Barred Rock, and 2 Pekin ducks. Mine are in an old livestock barn that is made of cinder block. It’s on a slab and my husband repaired the roof this past summer. The coop is about a quarter of the barn. The coop itself is...

I could for sure do that. It would be a last resort however because it would cause quite a bit of stress on my whole flock.

I wondered that also since her skin is not at all irritated or swollen. She does have pin feathers but they are not uniform. Also, there are no piles of feathers anywhere. Sure we see one ir two lying around but I would definitely notice a bunch.

Sounds like I need to give her a rub down on a white sheet, put the trail cam in the pointed at the roost, and try some high protein food. I’d love to figure out what the problem is, but truth is I just want her to be good and feathery again!

I will check her over better for some sort of bug. Is the feather fixer safe to give the others who are not having a problem or should I quarantine her? I’m considering separating her anyway...problem is they all go nuts if one isn’t with the group. :(

I will definitely give that a try! I will try anything! It’s gonna get cold here and my girls need all the feathers they can get!

    My girl...

She’s just over 6 months. I should say also, I thought maybe she was being bullied since my ducks used to bury their beaks in each other’s or the chickens feathers... but I haven’t observed any of this behavior in months. They all get along surprising well.

Yes... I will try to get pics. I’m not home right now tho. She doesn’t look irritated at all. Just bare.

I know the conversation about feather plucking has been discussed over and over, but I am dumb founded still and want to know if anyone has experienced the same. I have 6 hens and 2 Pekins ducks. One of my golden comets is going bald on her lower half. It started that she just looked scruffy...

    Birdies loving their new digs!

I prefer pine as well. My friend, however, gave me two bales of hay and since I’m planning on trying the deep litter method I thought the hay would make a good base.

We are still new to this. We hated the lack of space in the tiny kit coop so we pushed up the barn renovation project. Thoughts? My husband has moved the nesting boxes and roosts about 6 times.
