The lady I get my chickens from had showgirls(silkie x turken) and silkie x Easter Eggers. I got a few of each and I was wondering if they will lay anywhere near as well as the Turken aka naked neck or Easter Eggers I've had in the past?
In my experience it has a lot to do with how they are raised. I've had 3 silkie roo's. 2 were in the brooder in the house and were handled daily by my at the time 3 year old son and they were extremely gentle and let him carry them around and would sit on his swing set with him and wait for him...
The coop is insulated and they all free range but have one big feeder and waterer. The bigger EE roo is gone now but so far only the other roo came back. So now I have to look for my EE, silkie and lavender orpington hens. I have learned my lesson only 1 big roo and my silkie Roo. Hopefully the...
There are 2 Easter eggers. The one that comes back to the coop with the bigger hens and silkie roo is the Alpha dominant rooster. He is at least a pound or more heavier and 2-3 inches taller. I will try seperating him first and see if the other birds come back with him gone
So I have a flock of 9 birds with 3 roosters (2 EE 1 silkie) and 6 hens 1 silkie 2 RIR 2 orpingtons 1 EE. The used to all come back to the coop together. Recently the EE roosters started trying to mate and now only 1 EE rooster the 2 RIR silkie rooster and one Orpington come back at night I've...
I have 3 Rhode Island reds that are 5 months old and they still aren't laying eggs. I put boxes up on a ledge and put some wood chips in it. They roost on the edge and poop in it. I've searched the coop and can't find eggs. Is something wrong with them or are they still too young to lay eggs?
Is this an Easter egger? I have 2 other Easter eggers a Roo and a hen and they have deep yellow feet and more brown and pale yellow coloring. They are also a lot fuller/fatter.
I am in upstate New York. I originally bought all the chickens for meat and eggs but my son loves the silkies and they are perfect so now he is going to show them and the rest will be working chickens. My kid is also the reason I want aseel chickens.
So now that I know the breeds. Thank you "what breed is this forum" I have 3 silkies 1 cockerel 2 pullets. 4 Easter eggers 2 cockerels 2 pullets. 3 Rhode Island reds all hens. 1 blue Orpington pullet 1 lavender Orpington pullet. Next spring I would like a few Saigon, aseel, and o-shamo chickens
She had several breeds that had chicks. I wanted silkies and Easter eggers. She also had partridge Cochins, lavender orpingtons (see my other thread) and cuckoo marans. After giving me 3 EE and 4 silkies she threw in 3 other chickens and I forgot to ask what they were.
I bought 10 chickens from a breeder and she mixed the breeds. I have silkies, Easter eggers, cuckoo marans and a lavender orpington. I have identified those but I have no idea what this one is
