I would love to but my chickens and rooster are completely free range apart from the coops they return to, to sleep in at night. Our land is around 1/2 acre plus they go further afield to forage and play. I live on an island so no worries about neighbours.
My chickens and rooster don't really...
How many roosters if any do you have?
My hens are quite large whereas most roosters are significantly bigger than their hens. (From what I have mostly seen)
My hens are extremely in their own. They're by no means bossed around by my rooster. The hens certainly wear the trousers.
Would I know...
Hello.
I have 3 large "Marans" 14 Months old but maybe slighter older or younger. Plus I'll have another 4 hens from the chicks I've hatcheted naturally. (The chicks are mix breed from the Appenzeller and Maran.
The rooster/cockerel I already have (the father) did live with his 4 other...
I have 8 chicks that have recently hatched.
4 hens and 4 roosters/cockerels.
I am such a soft touch that I just can't bring myself to kill the poor little guys after looking after them with their mama hens.
I have heard that people can only have one rooster in their flock but from others you...

Im aware that cockerels are much harder to to get rid of, well at least here anyway. I just can't bring myself to, you know.
My mixed breed chicks are currently only 10-11 days old. A few are even younger.
The chicks are currently been looked after by their mothers (hens) naturally.
Unfortunately out of the 8 chicks I have only 4 are Hens and 4 Cockerels.
I'm only keep one cockerel from the chicks I have but the...
Oh, so no scientific name or anything ha ha.
I thought they'd have their own name instead of just been called mixed breed chickens?
Sexlinked?
Is it only mixed breeds that have the sexlinked capability.
The capability to tell gender from a day or so old?
So the ones with the white spots, they...
(hello, I am new to Backyard-Chickens)
I have recently (the past year) decided to keep chickens.
Just for pleasure though, when they get old they'll just carry on being completely free range pets (no predators) and grow old and happy...
They're making great pets!
Such kind nature and they all...
