I had issue with foxes, one in particular was climbing over the 5ft fence and going on shopping spree. Even with me trying to scare it off, it was in kill mode and kept circling me in the run and climbing back in. Even after they run away they will be back as long as there is food.
I had to...
Hi,
I received a mix of chicks ( Ameraucana & French Copper Maran) and had these 2 mystery in there, of which Im not sure.
They have feathered legs. Im thinking Cochin? and not sure what color this is called, and if one might happen to be a female??
Below are some pics from 1 day to now about...
Pullet. In my experience the Roos don't have the same white scale pattern. It's more streaky on the wings. Also I found pullets have large tail at that age. And of course substantial wattles dropped down quick.
Attached is a pic of mine around 8-10 weeks I believe. 2 pullets and a cockeral on...
I like to save a handful of seeds from pumpkins then grow a batch. They keep for months in cellar. Every so often during winter months I take one out cut some starter holes in it and put in the coop or outside if weather permits. Its healthy and keeps them busy and cost me nothing.
Also we tend...
8 week old update of Bee.
No wattles dropping down or vibrant color like in roos at this age and no barring...plus the color pattern I'd say she is a she (that is if chickens are still allowed to identified as male & female genders🙄)
In 3rd pic, those other 2 are from same father, but the...
On a side note... Here is the father Mr Dockadoodle. Very friendly Roo with a unique crow that's more like a chime. A fan favourite around here.
Still not sure which was the mother.
Here is Bee now at 6 weeks old. This chicken is developing a very docile and friendly personality. It hops up to be held, and loves to be held close and pet.
Needles to say my kids are loving it (her?)
It is fun to watch them grow as the weeks pass.
I will next post an 8 week update. :D Stay...
Hi everyone, here is a 3 week update of baby Bee.
At first I thought it was a leg bar, but now I'm thinking part Robin LOL.
But on a serious note, Im thinking she is turning out to be a she, even with the white dot on her head still slightly there.
Further thoughts?
I have a mixed flock and have some hatches from few days ago. 1 is a legbar but I am confused on the markings.
Do auto sexing marks become invalid and show up on both male and female like they would on 2nd generation black sex links where the roo is barred and female solid??
It did appear to...
They are just whites. And probably lays 5 a week.
Nutrition is good. Free range most days, premium food, extra osyter shells, apple cider vinegar in their water etc.
Im a bit stumped on this... last spring i got some ready to lay Azure Blue pullets. One generally lays an average size egg, 1 regularly lays huge double yokes. But the 3rd bird is constantly laying tiny fairy eggs since late summer. I was giving them to my sister for her yorkie. Is there...
Last summer we had a broody hatch some eggs, and one egg had been snuck in about 1 week late. I took pity on it and managed to hatch it under a lamp in the house. Because of the age difference i couldnt return her to the hen & older siblings. So i ended up raising her. To this day she would...
No I just got them from Hatchery yesterday and there is no roo with them. They are about 18 weeks old. Im not sure if a rooster would have done such extensive stripping on such a young bird that just hitting maturity. In comparison, what my rooster has done to his favourites looks more mangy...
Hello, I just got a few pullets to add to my flock. The 3 Barred Rocks are in a bit of rough shape and are in a quarantine coop.
2 of the girls are missing rather large patches of feathers on the lower back right above the tail and it extends quite far on one down the sides so that the wings are...
