I have several different wyandottes. I placed an order with a local feed store last year for gold-laced birds. One of my hens has a single comb like yours. I had originally thought that she was a rooster because of her size and comb/wattle color, but nope hen all the way!! Honestly, I do think...
I really have tried to be understanding of his hormones...he was friendly, and then one day he just snapped. The hens will eat out of my hand and follow me everywhere.
If you have no allergy, and have access, peanut skins make great bedding for chickens, and other livestock. They also make a beautiful mulch for the garden:D
Over the past few years, I have had two different wyandotte roo's. One silver laced and one gold. Both turned out extremely aggressive. Mr.Gold has reached the end of my patience, and I'm thinking he will not be with us much longer. I allow my chickens to free range most of the day, and he will...

Really?! I had no idea...I've never had a single comb on any of my wyandottes, but I've only raised chickens for 3 years, so there is a lot left for me to learn and see I suppose! Thank You, I have been baffled by that one for awhile now
This hen is one year old. She came in a batch of gold-laced wyandottes. I am wondering if she is any other type of breed, or if she is just a mixed breed perhaps? There is no way that she is all wyandotte because she has a single comb not a rose comb! Any input would be great!
It sounds to me like he wants to mate with them. I'm sure your bantam is much smaller than the orpington ladies, and it is hard for him to get ahold of them the proper way. (which would be by grabbing the neck feathers) If he is displaying any sort of mating ritual like dropping his wing, and...
I've been frequently visiting BYC for awhile now, thought I should finally join in! I've been raising a flock of mixed colored Wyandottes for 3 years. This spring I decided to change things a tad and I ordered a collection of mixed pullets. Identifying them with my children has been a blast. We...
