I started with 2 hens last year in April. In November a young black bear got one of my hens at dusk. I came home a little too late. I heard it happening, but it was too late. I managed to keep the surviving hen safe and am now almost finished building a secure run. I am really into it, the longer I have that hen. She is laying an egg every day, even throughout the winter, because I extended the daylight with a lamp on a timer. I only let her free range on the weekend, when I am right next to her. I hope to finish my secure run in the next week, so I can get more hens.
