That is weird and I am sorry for your loss! I say weird, because my neighbor called me tonight all shook up, because the same thing happened to them last night. They lost 43 hens. It was a new coop 16ft x 20ft. Wood floor and sides. They have a 12" screen section that goes all around the 4 sides...
I would like to find a white rock around here(SW Ohio). They like the Cochins are getting rare. I didnt see either at the last two swaps I went to. I have 3 blue Cochins(1 roo, 2 hens), and A lady stopped by here last week and wanted to buy them. My wife would not be happy...lol
I would like to see a list of the most friendly/kind breed to the most aggressive/Skittish breeds that everyone has in their flocks. We own several breeds, and I would have to rank our flock in this order from friendly/Docile to Aggressive/Skittish:
1. Cochins
2. Orpingtons

Had 4 Australorp eggs, 6 silkie eggs, and 4 leghorns start hatching tonight. These are our first ever silkies and watching the first 5 hatch was a trip! they looked like sewing machines zipping around their shells, and then...boom..they literally kicked off their shells. I have watched a lot of...
I guess I kinda let mother nature do her thing. No heat, well ventilated. I do run a light ( not a heat lamp) that is in a shatterproof enclosure with conduit, so they cant peck or cause a fire messing with it. It is on a timer, because in Ohio it gets dark at 5:30 or so during the winter. With...
