By the way, it's really funny....I sit here in the garage, next to the chickens, with my computer for hours on end. I can't play that video anywhere NEAR Sweet Pea because she comes RUNNING. I worked really hard to try to get her to know her name. I don't want to desensitize her to it. But I...
Thanks for all the helpful advice! Good to know a little pecking is okay. He just seems to have grumpy moments. I'm spending a lot of time talking to all of them and especially Mr. Briggs. I want him to be nice to as many people as possible. Which right now is just the 3 of us.......he'll...
Wow! Great! That's 3 sources I've found all saying they can handle it outside in the cold once they are feathered......it's a relief to know we are not sending them to their deaths! Thanks for the welcome!
I am wondering about the goose my mom got to guard the chickens. I've been told they get mean or try to breed with the chickens if they are male. I haven't a CLUE what sex it is, but it's almost 2 weeks old and is kinda mean sometimes to the chickens. I'm not sure if this goose is gonna last if...
Yeah, the ducks are Pekins and will not be staying for long. They will be graduated to the dinner table when they are ready, so I don't think they'll be around long enough to cause those kinds of problems. The other 2 golden ones (can't remember their breed) are females.

Sweet Pea is a White Plymouth Rock......my mom got white chickens. BORING. She's my favorite, go figure. That's food coloring on her wings, by the way. Hope that doesn't offend anybody, but I just can't help myself. I want my mom to name the henhouse "The painted chicken".......

Sweat pea is the smartest chicken in the flock. She's the one who figured out that the ducks get special attention......so now SHE gets special attention!.......
Hello, I'm a newbie to this group and to the world of raising chickens. I live in the city and am visiting here an hour away at my mom's to raise some chickens! In fact, they are actually my mom's chickens (26 chics, 8 ducks and a goose). They are all about the same age. 6 of the ducklings are...
