From what I've read, Africans and Chinese are supposedly leaner. I wanted to raise toulouse for the high fat content, especially since I used mostly rendered animal fat for cooking.
I want to know about the bill color because I've got a strong feeling these guys aren't toulouse. I ordered toulouse goslings and got these. What do y'all think?
We just lure them in with "the blue bucket" now. The blue bucket, of course, has grain in it. They just get one scoop between the 7 of them each night to get them in their house. Other than that, I'm raising them on pasture only. They seem to be gaining enough weight.
I've got 7 toulouse geese that were hatched in mid-May. Their feet were grey as babies, but have since turned orange. Their bills stayed black. Will they ever change to orange? Every picture of a toulouse I've ever seen had an orange bill.
Do geese usually molt this time of year? They seem to be doing a sort of soft molt- nobody is bald, just a little ruffled looking and lots of feathers across the grass.

Hi everybody, it's been a while since I've given an update. The geese are doing well- MUCH better than a few weeks ago. We've learned to keep them calm, they occasionally let us pet them (but not overdo it), and will eat treats from our hands. They looove to follow my wife around when she's...
I haven't been home much, thus posting from my phone only and haven't been able to successfully post pictures from my phone. BUT everyone successfully went in on their own without panic, but with some guidance from me with arms spread out. They did such a good job!!
So I think two of them are getting angel wing. I took their grain away. One is much worse than the other. Should I sling them too? I'm worried that might not go too well.
Ok, I didn't get a picture of their setup today due to foul (hahaha) weather, BUT the evening "routine" went MUCH MUCH smoother this evening. My wife helped me to corral them into one corner near the opening of their house as calmly as possible. I picked up the first goose, and it reluctantly...
