So the chick that has no stripes turned out to be white. I also hatched some more and it’s so interesting. Half the chicks are white and the other half are this other color- maybe some kind of wheaten? The wheaten chicks resemble faverolles in that all the males are dark and the females are...
Both chicks together. They are a good size as of now. The black and white chick next to them is an olive egger that hatched the day before them, for size comparison.
Chick 2: hatched 3/13/24 is solid yellow with black skin. Muffs and beard are not as pronounced. All these hybrids have perfect feet, unlike my pure silkies I’ve been working so hard on. 🙄😂

Chick 1: has black stripes down back and...

I’ve paired down to only 3 breeders right now. My rooster is from a good line but it was really hard to get him. I live in Hawaii and it’s almost impossible to get silkies here unless from a big hatchery, and shipping ruins most of...
Yeah I think you’re right. Thank you for reminding me about that- I’ve been culling so hard for that in my existing flock, and weird toes still pops up even though my current breeders all have 5 distinct toes. 😭
I agree that it’s important to make sure these basic traits are preserved in...
Thank you for the feedback! I ended up getting a better looking roo over the last year, from an egg from a breeder who shows. The difference is really great to see- he isn’t perfect but much closer to sop than this white rooster is.
I still have my white rooster and am now using him for my...
Thank you all for the advice and for sharing your knowledge about the silkie genes. 😍
Here’s the silkies and satins and their wings. I was most excited about the little blue one (chick 1) but pretty sure it has the satin feathers. The good news is, I think all of them have black skin! Feet...
