    Chickens with swollen eyes

One of my girls had the same - weepy closed eye & lethargic. It could be a bacterial infection. I got some antibiotic eye drops from the chemist (for human conjunctivitis!). 1 drop twice a day in the affected eye & she was almost back to normal in 2 days. Hope this is useful xx

Topic of the Week - Feeding Treats

Just a heads up... all chickens love mealworms but they're not cheap. I buy live maggots from my local fishing bait shop - approx £3.70 a pint. Given in moderation they're much more economical & fun as the girls have to grab them before they wriggle off. They'll do anything for a handful of...

    Bumblefoot

Hi all- I went from bumblefoot virgin to bumblefoot veteran last summer. My 4 girls all got it (as it turned out it was from jumping off a high perch onto gravel in their coop). I would advise the following... catch your girl & wrap in a towel. This seems to calm them down. They almost go into...

Hi - new to this post but it's really interesting reading everyone's ideas. I'm just outside London and have 5 girls in a fairly big covered (but outside) run. They're going a bit mad stuck in there as they used to free range daily - a good toy I made is an old hanging basket full of sand...

Tricide Neo for Bumblefoot- Still recommended?

Ah that's brilliant advice - thanks so much kaytee. My girls roost high up on the roof of the nest box which is like sandy roofing felt - so rough. They also jump down on to gravelly sand so will have to change that. Thanks again x

Tricide Neo for Bumblefoot- Still recommended?

I'm not sure I can buy Tricide in the UK. Any ideas? Thanks for a great thread by the way. Cost me £87 at the vets today for antibiotics & pain killers for my girls xxx

Keeping chickens cool in the summer?

I put tinned sweetcorn in a plastic pot topped up with water in the freezer the night before, in the morning I pop it in their run- as it melts during the day they get a constant supply of cold corn & water. A chicken corn-lolly!

Adding to a flock of one!

Great advice thanks. I'm building a bigger new coop so may put the old girl in there then the new ones in the old coop next to it for a while. Thanks for all the links.
